How is everyone dealing with the heat?

hello fellow jersyites..glad i found you. have a question hoping someone can answer..we currently live in bergen county but are looking to move to burlington county for better schools, affordable homes etc. we have family that live in pennsauken but we re looking in the mt laurel area..we ve been visiting but was wondering if anyone here has the scoop on actually living there?? someone in that area told me its nice but boring..boring i can handle, gangs and day laborers on every corner i cant. and im not prejeduice, im actually hispanic but when you have a concentration of them living in a certain area the crime goes up...any feedback would be great, thnks.

I live in Ocean County - so I can't really be of help. Years ago I knew a family that lived in Mt. Laurel - and I do remember the comments of how boring it was. But then they just drank all the time to have some fun haha! As for schools - with our lovely governor, most districts are going through tough times and major transitions. It's going to be interesting to see who the "good districts" are over the next few years. Good luck!

I grew up (30 years) in Cinnaminson, between Mt Laurel and Pennsauken. Moved to Maine 20years ago.

My mother used to say we were "not near anything and not far from everything". It is not a walkable area. With a car, you can easily get to several malls. Within an hour or two to three, you can be in Philadelphia, New York City or Washington DC.

Mt Laurel schools are good. It has a very good public library. It struggles because it does not have a distinct town center. I remember peach and apple orchards along Rt 38. Now it all all condo and town house developments and strip shopping centers. Does have a Wegman's grocery store that is very nice.

Traffic gets congested compared to what I ace gotten used to up here in Maine, but I am sure it would pose no problem for you.

Good luck!

I know of classmates who moved away and have returned, so it must still be good.

Here in the hazy, hot, and humid Delaware Valley, I'm keeping the house closed up and the a/c running so much I'm dreading the electric bill, but there's no choice this summer. I've been to WDW quite a few times in August, and it is no worse than it's been here this summer, so at least I'll be adjusted to it when we get there in a couple of weeks. I can't imagine how people who have to work outdoors have been dealing with it. The air quality has been dreadful.
This afternoon, finally, we had storms and the temperature dropped 20 degrees within 20 minutes. Hopefully it will last!

Really? Florida has all of the humidity so I'm surprised to hear that.

I think it's because my home here is designed to be cool, where my home in NJ was designed to be warm. Of course, that means when it got to be really cold in January, I was pretty chilly-but I can fix that. I kept some of my sweaters that I just couldn't part with when I moved. I'm also finding that the days I work, I'm outside from 6 or 7 in the morning until 3 or 4 in the afternoon without going into AC and I guess my body just adjusts. I find the heat more oppressive when I'm popping in and out of air conditioned buildings and cars.

It's a heck of a summer in Upstate NY too.

But hey I've been complaining for the past few years about how bad our summers have been so I've tried to keep the complaints to a minimum.

It's has been somewhat miserable at time though.

Like coming home from work peeling my sweat soaked clothes off and jumping into a 92 degree pool.....ugh....no relief there

It's like I keep telling the wife and kids though....

The Disney Gods are just preparing us for the world in August :woohoo:

LOL it looks like quite a few of us are "practicing" for August ;) It seems every time I go the last half of August most of the people I meet are from Jersey or the NE area.

My temp also dropped about 20 degrees in a short amount of time! It got so dark around 3:00 and then the rain moved in. It was nice to finally hear the A/C turn off for a bit.

I'm in Northern California, by San Francisco and am freezing!. It has barely reached 70 degrees all week and I'm wearing a sweat shirt, long pants and socks and I'm still cold.

I'd so much rather have the heat than be so cold. Send the heat this way!

NYC would like to trade.

Jackson, NJ will trade as well! LOL I really prefer cooler weather. It's so much easier to get warm than it is to get cool. I would LOVE for it to be barely 70 degrees - esp. during the day!

Dreaming of a little warmth.

Sitting on the couch with 3 dogs on my lap under a blanket, wearing merino thermals, polyprop and a fleece top, merino leggings, two pairs of socks and snow boots... its winter in the southern hemisphere... :rotfl2:

But on the bright side, 50 sleeps until Disney...
sounds like we will be there at the same time.....................i will keep an eye out for the lady in the longjohns...................tonite will be the first nite in weeks that we dont sweat ourselves to sleep.........going down to 60f.

Other than doing my runs after dark I haven't really changed anything. I don't mind the heat and just remember that in the middle of February when I am out shoveling the driveway I'll be missing it.

Beautiful now. About 65 with a slight breeze. Sitting out on the porch...so happy to turn off the AC and open the windows. I can deal with the heat during the day as long as it cools off at night, when it's still over 80 or more at midnight it's too much for me. I hate closing all the doors and windows for the AC as much as I do for the furnace.

So glad the heat finally broke. It is a very pleasant 67 right now.
