We are taking additional family with us next trip (DH and I always go alone), specifically my Brother, 3 1/2 year-old Nephew, Sister-in-law and her Mom. DH and I have only done one character meal (Garden Grill), so we are far from experts. The others did Chef Mickey's once, and want to try Breakfastosauras this time, since they have never been to AK.

How is the food? Which characters? Any tips?

Thanks for your help.

we have always enjoyed donald's. the food is served buffet style and the choices are varied. you can order an omlette. the characters are donald, mickey, goofy, and chipndale. they are in safari attire. this is one of the few places to see donald. i would book this either first thing or maybe after the park opens on an EE day. it can get a little crazy!!

Here is a copy of my review from Dec. 2002:

12/21, breakfast at Donalds breakfastosaurus (special christmas addition)
We arrived at AK at 8:15am for our 8:30 PS. They efficiently had one turnstile available for people with PS's for the breakfast. You then signed in at a table they have set up by the main entrance. They give you a card with your name and ps time on it and have you wait in an area off to the right until your name is called. Then a CM walks you through the park (which doesn't open until 9am) to the restaurant in DinoLand. She ended up also being our waitress. When you arrive at the restaurant you have your picture taken and then are led to your seat. We sat in the "recreation room" area of the restaurant which reminded me of the decor at 50's Prime Time in MGM. We were brought a giant pitcher of coffee which is what we really needed. We sat and enjoyed this awhile before rushing off to the buffet. Now, I am NOT a big fan of buffets, but this was very good. Trying to recall the selection, I believe they had one "cold" station with cereal, fruit, and pastries and then a "hot" buffet with eggs, sausage patties, bacon, pancakes, cinamon french toast, quiche, apple crisp (yummy), hash browned potatoes and I'm sure more that I forgot. They also have a omelette station where you can order one fresh and they make it right in front of you. My only regret is that it took like 15 minutes...I had one with mushrooms, peppers, onion and tomato. It was hot and delicious.

Characters were good, but a little rushed. There was goofy, chip and dale, mickey and pluto, and of course Donald.

Overall rating: 7 1/2 I would go back here again, but would want to be more rested and hungry. The food really impressed me and I liked getting to AK early.

Thank you so much for all the details. I think this will work out well for us.

I would rate Donald's Breakfast a 3 - for character interaction and food quality. The characters were VERY rushed. I don't have a single picture of all four kids posing with the characters. They signed the books and scurried off.

The line for the buffet was very long. We didn't find much that we liked. The menu sounded great but nothing was.

Our pitcher of juice had a bug in it. When I poured drinks for the kids, it came out into a glass. :o

We will never waste $80 for this one again.

We've eaten there 2X and love it. One a scale of 1-10
I'd give then the following, first number is first trip, second is the second trip

Characters 7 ....10
Food 6 .....9
crowds 7......10

I agree with some of the postings of not being the best.
We ate there close to 10... so not sure if because getting ready
for lunch crowd or what??

Food was cold, rubbery, and servious was poor.
Characters had people with them rushing them through
the tables.

Compared to like Chef Mickeys - for food and Character interaction
:(

Our favorite Character meals are Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace.

I have to agree with the majority here. Rushed for sure! I didn't like eating off of plastic and having my coffee in a plastic cup. This character breakfast I was concerned that my children would miss the characters waiting in line at the buffet. We had to tell them to get off of line so they wouldn't miss the group photo. It is probably the worst character breakfast out of them all.

I think that plastic/ chidlren and a buffet are a good mix. I think CM's should learn from donalds, especially with those stupid steps, CM's needs to have plastic. I would have to say at CM's is where I worried about missing the characters. There are too many rooms. You could be at the buffet and have no idea that the characters are near your table. At Donalds we've always been close enought to the "action" to see if the character were around, and were close enough to the table that we could go over if needed. The interaction has always been good (but H&V had the best IMHO) and the last trip it was excelent.
1st trip food was good but they didn't refill anything. 2nd trip was also ate at 10:o0 but they refilled everything.

Service was good but slow first trip.

Second trip our server was great. She had one of the tricks fail on my DSi so she enlisted the aid of another server to get her. My sis is a scout leader and when I mentioned that Mickey made a big deal over her.

This is 14 DS favorite character meal (and 2nd fav WDW meal).

Our impression of this breakfast was that they just didn't seem to have the hang of running things smoothly. We've had wonderful experiences at other character meals, but this one just didn't seem to have it all together. That said, I think a big part of the problem was that by our PS time (10:00) they were running 45 minutes behind and trying to play catch up, so everyone was feeling rushed. We were even told to be seated at a table with juice glasses still on it...........the occupants were quite surprised to return to their table to find us there! :D

We eventually got our own table, and did enjoy the food. No complaints about the characters here either. DD had brought her new Pluto beanie with her and he took time to be a bit silly with her. It was also DH's birthday and our server led us in a family sing along when our section had emptied out and presented DH with a signed birthday card from the characters.

Overall, I think the pluses outweighed the minuses and we would return. I definitely think an earlier PS would solve some of the issues we had.
