How is Cedar Point, Castaway Bay compared to say Geauga Lake?

My mom and I are taking the kids DS(8) and DD (2) to some kind of park at the end of July. We originally had Geauga Lake booked but because of our horrible rainy summer thought of maybe changing our plans.

We thought of maybe doing Castaway Bay (indoor waterpark) and Cedar Point so we would have a back up in case it rained. Or maybe staying at Great Wolf and going to Cedar Point for the day.

We have already been to Kalahari. DS will ride some big rides but won't do the huge ones at Cedar Point. How is the kiddie sction for DD also? Is it worth the money since Cedar Point is considerably more than Geauga Lake.

Seriously, Cedar Point is a coaster park. There did seem to be some kiddie sections with some nice stuff for small children, but the focus is on the big coasters. My DH and I remarked that if we weren't there because my DS (age 11) is a coaster-a-holic that we would be very disappointed. We did a few other things -- a spectacular ferris wheel, some normal amusement park type things -- but we really spent three days riding coasters (which, incidentally, was why we went!).

Cedar Point isn't called "America's Roller Coast" for nothing. The focus is on the coasters, though in recent years they have tried to make it more kid friendly. They've continually expanded the Snoopy areas.

If you love roller coasters it's the place to be. It also has a ton of other high thrill rides. If you like water parks, you can't go wrong with Castaway bay.

If it was me, I'd probably go with Geauga Lake with kids that age even with the threat of rain. There are other things to do in that area if it's really bad. Cedar Point is one of the busiest parks on the planet. I've waited hours in lines for coaters and been mobbed tryint to walk from one place to another. I avoid CP at all costs in July and August.

It's a tough call though. If it's just rain then you can hang out in Geauga Lake's free water park.

PM me if you have more questions. I live right between both parks so I've basically grown up going to both.

BTW Geauga Lake is now owned by Cedar Point so they have similar atmoshperes.
