How intense IS Expedition Everest?

DW and I both LOVE Space Mountain and BTMRR...but I'm deathly afraid of RnR. We've never been on EE...we have a brave 9 yr. old, and an occasionally brave 6 yr. old. Since it's hard to tell from online videos, I'm looking for honest opinions about the "that was awesome" to "I'm sick for the rest of the day" ratio. (and yes, I've been on ToT...once per trip is enough for me :))

Thanks!

Its like BTMRR on a much larger scale but the ride is much smoother than thunder and goes backwards. I don't see a lot of comparison to SM myself but that's just me

It's awesome. I think it's on a par with Space Mountain as far as intensity. The backwards part is the most intense. Love it!

Its my fav ride at Disney. I agree that its like BTMRR but a bit more intense. My DD (who cried after her first ride on Space Mt) loved it at age 5! As mentioned, it does go backwards, so if that bothers you, it may be a no go. But overall, its a lot of fun.

I don't think it's very intense. It's a lot of fun. No big drops, and to me that's what makes a coaster intense.

It's a smooth coaster. I always feel like I get jerked around on space mountain, which I am not a big fan of. It's a tad more intense than BTMRR. I road them both last week. My 6yo son road Everest for the first time twice within 30 minutes. It's now his favorite ride. He had a smile on his face the whole time. The backward part of the ride doesn't last very long. IMO, if you ride space mountain and TOT, then you should be fine with this. It's a great coaster and my fav at disney.

Okay, I am a person that doesn't do drops (ToT = :sad2: So does Splash Mountain) I HATE drops.

That being said... My heart was about to beat out of my chest because, I've been afraid of rides since I was a kid. I got over my fear of Space Mountain last year and have been a little braver so, we hopped on EE just after rope drop.

It's SUPER smooth! Right out of the gate it takes off with a bit of pep, the climb to the top is really smooth and silent since Disney spent mulah to not have the ride do that "click-click" sound that most chained coasters have. I LOVED the backwards part! It basically goes backwards, at an angle and twists down (see: helix). It does not go upside down nor did I feel like I was going upside down. I didn't get a headache or anything like that. But, because I tend to be a nervous nelly, I did have a motion sickness pill.

The drop... me no like but then, it was my first ride. I hoping to get back on when we go back this year. I think the drop scared me more than gave me that "bottom out" feeling. After the drop the coaster flies in and out of the mountain which is a wonderful feeling. It's much than SM and BTMRR (Neither of which do more than 30MPH - EE does 50mph).. and is themed so much better than both with a few surprises.

BTMRR is my fav though, I always ride that one several times. :)

I've been avoiding EE like the plague because on the youtube videos it DOES seem to have quite a drop. It even says so on the description, but then I will see posts like this and people saying it's less intense than SM or BTMRR and I get super confused. I LOVE both of those rides and could go on them again and again! But, I would have to be dead to go on ToT, so maybe we all have different ideas of "intense!" LOL

It's the drops man.. can't hang with the drops!! ;)

LOL Jakie! You sound like a woman after my own heart!! ;)

DS6 LOVED Expedition Everest. He wanted to ride it again and again. Like others said, similar to Big Thunder Mtn RR, smoother, seating is the same (seats have sides so I feel like I'm staying in my seat....)

To compare, he did NOT like Space Mtn. mostly because Space Mtn. was all dark and the seating makes us feel like we are going to fall out. He loved Big Thunder Mtn RR and Splash Mtn. But Expedition Everest does not have a big drop like Splash Mtn except for the going backward part feels like a big drop... but that part is over so quick....

It's TONS of fun, but relatively low on the coaster intensity scale. There's no huge drops, no corkscrews or inversions, the only intensity comes from the brief backwards run. It's a smooth ride with a fun theme and a fantastic queue, so I really encourage those who are hesitant to give it a try! :thumbsup2

As thrill rides go, it is very low on the "intense" scale.

Compared to Soarin, it is extremely intense.

I guess it is comparable to ToT. I think ToT is probably slightly more intense, but suppose that is debatable.

I like thrill rides and serious, State of the Art coasters. I don't get a huge thrill out of EE, but I do think it is a fun ride. It has one semi-decent, medium sized hill. Well, it's a medium-sized hill as thrill rides go. Compared to a completely wussy coaster like BTMR, it's a big hill...and the backwards part would be "intense"...but it really isn't, IMO.

I don't know if this helps at all.

Another vote for "not intense". It's a very fun ride, and I don't even remember a real drop to speak of. It's maybe a little faster than BTMRR, and the fun thing is that it goes backwards and in the dark. Just fun, not intense. :thumbsup2

It looks bigger and scarier than it feels. Make sure to keep your head back when you are going backwards. The drop turns and has less of a degree while your going down so it doesn't feel as scary as Splash Mountain. I enjoyed it very much and am a roller coaster scaredy cat. :goodvibes

Ok, I'm convinced. I think we've gotta try it. Like I said, we love Space Mountain and BTMRR...speed is good, it's drops that give us the willies (although Splash Mountain and ToT are worth it) :) Looking forward to it! Thanks to everyone for responding

One of my favorites! I do get motion sickness on some rides, I can't do Soarin, Star Tours, MS, or Teacups, but was fine on EE. The drop isn't to bad, especially when you YouTube the thrill rides at other parks and compare! Yikes, I'm definitely not a thrill ride girl!!!

I say it's a little bit more intense than BTMRR. I find it fun, but not scary. I do wish the drop was bigger, but I love drops. My fav ride is TOT! Now Screamin at DL is INTENSE! EE is tame compared to that. No motion sickness & I get it easily. (Even riding in the back seat of a car)
My 7 yr old loves BTMRR & I am hoping he'll try EE this fall. He's an anxious kid & will be wary due to seeing it. I think he'll love it if he gives it a chance. He also refuses to do TOT.:(

I was a little concerned before we got in the first time, but even my Aspie kid loved it. We rode 6 times that day and 6 more times on our second AK day.
