How intense is EE?

Can you all please try to describe the backward part in more detail...I really, really hate the darkness. Is there any light at all in the near distance that I can focus on? What can I expect that the ride does at this point, is it really curvy or does it stay straight in the darkness? I guess its the pure unknown that disturbs me the most. Thanks!

From what I remember, it was pitch black....no light at all. It's definitely not straight back, but its hard to tell WHAT you're doing really. To me, it felt like you were upside down, but you weren't. You get that "pulling" sensation in your stomach, like you're dropping sort of. At least that was my experience. It was really weird not being able to see where you are going or what your are doing. It sounds freaky, but it is really fun. ::yes::

'Fear of the unknown' can be pretty strong -- especially when traveling backwards! I was helped on this part of the ride because I had read a description on a different discussion board. The backwards part feels like this:

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

1. After pausing for 10 seconds near the top, the train starts to move backwards.

2. The train enters the mountain and after about 3 to 5 seconds, the train starts to ascend a hill.

3. At this point, you actually feel like you may be at the start of a loop. If I hadn't any prior knowledge, and if I ignored the fact that I only had a lap bar to restrain me, I might have thought I was at the beginning of a 360 degree loop.

4. But, of course, it's not a loop, and after about 3 to 5 intense seconds, the ride levels off for about 2 seconds and slows down somewhat.

5. The train then heads down a hill -- backwards still -- and finally slows to a stop in the cave. This second hill is not as intense as the first part of the backwards segment.

The total time traveling backwards may be 15 to 20 seconds, and the total time in complete darkness is about 10 seconds (rough estimates).

Hope this helps!

Jillpie - have you ever thought about getting glow sticks to take? I get them in a tube at the Dollar Store to give to my kids (and the other folks in line) for the dark rides. They even have the kind you can wear on a string around your neck so you can hang on during the ride! It really helps in our family! Personally, I've been known to close my eyes during the scarier parts...but that's just between you & me...I'll deny I ever wrote that (tee hee).

"But, it was a little unsettling to know I'm about to travel 50+ MPH on a track that just moved into place..."

I wondered about that! It just makes sense...I think that's the more scary part of the ride - worse than the drop & going backwards. Yikes! Oh well, I have until our trip in November to forget about it. :teeth:

For the backwards part, it feels like you go up and to your left. Part of it is completely dark and then you get a bit of light.

When i got off this ride I felt weak, dizzy, sweaty...took about 40 minutes to feel back to normal....I think it was the backwards part that got to me :confused3

Thanks to everyone about these great details about going backwards. Its not so "unknown" anymore.
