How important is a good DVC Guide?

I think how important your guide is depends on if you found the Dis Boards before or after you purchased. Th information on these boards really cuts down the amount of explaining a guide needs to do.

Exactly. We were in, sold and out in 30 minutes. Our guide must have thought that was the easiest sale ever. She was super friendly and very knowlegable about things. She gladly skipped the things I knew and made sure I understood the things I didn't. There wasn't much explaining for her to do since I had found these boards thanks to Chadm. BTW, her name is Kelly Jo. I know that it will be nice dealing with her as our DVC guide in the future.

Our guide was great for our original purchase. Answered calls, questions, sent thank you cards, not once, but twice. Then I did an add on six months later. Not one thank you card, not one thank you call to follow up, nothing. That was six months ago. Never heard from my guide again.

My guide was very nice and returned phone calls super fast. But, I did get that salesman feel from him just a tad. He told me just a couple things that were a little misleading, but that I knew not to be the case from this board. (Such as home resort doesn't matter, you won't ahve any trouble booking anywhere...) Despite this, he never once pressured me and that says a thousand words. He waited for my calls. Once though he got my hopes up and told me VWL add on could coem through in a week, then when I called back maybe a coupel days later acted liek he never told me that and the waitlist was more like a year and a half for my use year. That was such a let down I can't tell you. We never got thank you cards or calls, but I think the guides that do that are few. Nice touch, though. Regardless, when we add on I would never think about switching guides. Warm fuzzies can be nice, but he is just selling me a timeshare!

I'm having major issues with my DVC guide! When I called to buy at SSR, thanks to these boards. Has anyone else ever had that problem before? I'm really frustrated!

Lucille, your problems sound horrific. I would have been livid at such gross incompetence. This person is "not well-placed" in their job.

My Guide Bruce Douglas is the best Sales Person I have ever encountered in my entire life. He is definently a People Person, So friendly and so outgoing. He returns phone calls all the time ASAP, gives us Christmas and birthdays cards, and always leaves a welcome home message on the phone when ever we are visting.I cannot imagine ever having another sales guide, it would be very disappointing comparing he or she to a real class act like Bruce.Bruce gets top marks in MHO:wave2:

We met our guide on the Disney Magic in 2002. I thought he was great on board. We decided it wasn't the right time to buy for us.

We got the SSR incentive mailing, so I called and left a message for him to send us further information. No return call. So, I finally caught him at his desk, and he sent the information.

We decided to buy, so I called. Got his machine. Told him my name, and that we were ready to buy, so he should call us. No return calls. I kept calling until Thursday, 10/30, when I called the main number, told them that my guide was not returning phone calls. So, they gave me the guy who sits right next to him. He took my information and told me he would give the info to my guide. Friday, no call, Saturday, no call. I checked my credit card, and saw the deposit charge pending, so I knew it went through. Finally, on Sunday, at lunch, I got a call from our guide. He said, "You got it in before 10/31/03, so you get the incentive".

Needless to say, I've been underwhelmed by the service. Apparently, he was gone for several days at the end of the month. Why a commission salesperson would take time off at the end of a huge incentive program is beyond me.

But, all that matters is that we are now owners! WOOHOO!

Our guide finally called back. She apologized over and over and said she had no idea how another contract went through and it was just one of those 'freak accidents'. She's super nice on the phone and I'm guessing maybe she is just new. If it wasn't for these boards, I may have gotten freaked out about everything and backed out a long time ago.
I really don't know how the $500 went through anyways--we're not signed up for direct deposit and never have been. We actually just moved and got a new checking account and were about to close out the old account--It only had a couple hundred in it and so when that $500 went through, we were overdrawn! I've never been overdrawn before so I really really freaked out, but she said they would take care of any fees and everything and she's talking to her boss to see if there's "something else they can give us for our trouble." We haven't asked for anything but the money and fees back from them, but an extra backpack would be nice:)
