Why did I open this thread? I won't see it until tomorrow....

I was not expecting that at all. I wonder what the numbers meant...

BTW, did you know that "Sandy Rivers" and "Lily Aldrin" are married in real life? :thumbsup2 They were both on Buffy too.

And that Scooter is Neil Patrick Harris's partner.
 on that ending. So did not see the numbers meaning that.

wow, that was a sad ending. Very unlike them to end like that.

I love the show. I cried at the end. Like a big baby. But it's why I love the show, the characters are so believable.

I noticed the numbers for the first time this episode...what do they mean??

EDIT: after Googling it, I realized the numbers were only in this episode. I just kept noticing the number 6...weird. (The 6 on the doctor's file folder, the 6's for Go Fish.)

Spoiler below if you have not seen the show yet.........

The show was titled, "Bad News." I think the numbers were a count down to bad news, the death of Marshalls dad.

Ahh! I feel like I'm missing out! I've seen the show, reruns on Lifetime, but now I'm dying to know what you're all talking about!

It was such a funny episode not sure why it had to end that way!!

The show has always mixed emotional depth with comedy. This just happened to be one of those life-events that is deeper than most others.

We thought it was going to be the countdown to Lily saying she was pregnant. Until his dad didnt answer the phone then I knew it was because he died. My DH was yelling at the TV about it.

As much as I love this show, it needs some depth. The characters were becoming "farces" of each other. How many ladies man jokes can you do? And Ted, seriously... start acting like a college professor instead of everybody's "buddy". Robin better start acting more professional or she will lost her credibility quick.. Lily- and her unrealistic teachers wardrobe... Marshall-- he's one of more believable characters, so it is good that something drastic happened to them.

As characters in their mid 30's (or close to mid), they should be doing a heck of a lot more than just drinking and goofing off.

I just hope the show doesn't get crazy once a baby comes - similar to Mad about You (another one of my favorites).

The problem is, of course, that they have set this intention to not reveal the titular Mother until the series is wrapping-up. That's put the show in a kind of holding pattern, now.

I was mad that I cried! I am already frustrated that we have been waiting almost 6 years to find out who the mom is. (I have given up, I just watch it as a sitcom now.) The show is a SITCOM. Situation comedy. There was no need for an ending like that. Maybe, if one of the main characters died in real life, a special episode where they have to deal with the characters death, yes. But come on! The guy is not dead in real life and he was not a regular character. DAMN, that ending sucked.

Maybe they're trying to add more "depth" into the show? :confused3

Sitcoms don't need depth. If they want to add depth to the show, they can tell us how the mom is!;)
