When I was kid and we used to go to Disney. My father would always tell my mom, find the cheapest place. Then we would get down their...he would hate it and we would end up spending the extra money and staying at the Disneyland Hotel.
...Flash foward 15 years....
My wife and I decide to take our kids to Disney. We had visited the WL a year or two early to eat dinner and thought it was beautiful. But, when we were going we couldn't get the first night and because some friends were a the Grovesner Hotel we decided to stay 3 nights there and then 2 nights at the WL. Well we get to the Grovesner and it was crowded, loud and we had an outdoor hall room that had mold on the ceiling of the hall. After one night I told my wife we were out of there. So I contacted the WL and luckily was able to get in the next day. I felt like my dad. And wondered if I was making a big deal out the situation. It's just a place to sleep. Well the next day we arrived at the WL. What a complete difference. It was peaceful, music was playing and I felt so much more calm. And while it was crowded. I never felt like their were that many people. Plus it took only minutes to get to the MK. As opposed to taking a shuttle from the Grovesner which after stopping at what seemed like every hotel in the Downtown Disney area took almost an hour.
So I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. My fathers and now my feeling is this. If you are spending so much money on a trip between airline tix, park tix and spending money...spend a few bucks more and stay at whatever place makes you feel the most comfortable. This is a vacation...enjoy it to the most.

2 Months until 6 nights at the WL! :cool1:

DW and I are people that enjoy the hotel we stay at. After 33 stays at WDW resorts since 1992, we do less park time and enjoy the hotel experience as much as the parks. After stays at the GF, AKL, POR, BWI and Poly we have settled on the WL as our favorite WDW resort. Out of the 33 trips we have stayed at the WL 19 times and will be back in Dec. of this year.

WDW has so many different resorts, a person should find one to their liking.

Thank you for posting about WL, I just booked it for our second honeymoon trip and I was bouncing back and forth with the idea of saving some $$ and staying outside the park because the kids will not be with us. What was I thinking!

Too funny! We booked HotelRoyal Plaza in the DTD area, actually had park perks. This was during Spring Break and we weren't even planning a "real" Disney trip, actually were down there for an airshow in Lakeland and planned 1 day, two max at WDW. After having no face cloths (ever) and battling the parking lot trolly folk refusing to fold strollers until threatened with security DH said, book it, what ever the cost. "It" wound up being CR wing room at 3 times the cost per night. But man what a difference, checked in at !0:30 and our room was available, Bell services took care of luggage (what bell services at HRP?). MAde all the difference in the world. So glad HRP is closed down now! We too love the WL, actually, I can't think of a Disney property I've been really displeased with yet! :)

This is EXACTLY how my DH and I feel about our vacations! We're already spending a small fortune on airfare, limo, food, souvenirs, etc. It only makes sense (to us, anyway. lol) to stay at the nicest resort we can afford. (This is NOT saying that the moderates or values aren't nice. In fact, I LOVE CBR, but DH and DSs have been requesting the deluxes, and I am happy to plan accordingly. :teeth: )

We only have 3 weeks and 1 day until we check in to the WL concierge for 2 nights, then onto the Polynesian concierge!! :sunny:

We always stayed off property, then we went allstar then we went WL -- DH never wants to stay anywhere else :goodvibes Its worth the extra $$ sometimes to have a restful vacation.

I'm glad that you like the WL.

In my opinion it's worth every penney.

We used to stay off site then stayed at the WL.

There's no goin' back!!!

I have to agree with everyone. We too love WL. We have been to WL 2 out 3 trips this past year. The last time we stayed at Pop. It was not bad.....but not WL. I even had to go to WL just to get the feeling. We will be staying at AKL in October. Everyone says it is close, I just hope we are not disappointed.
Thanks for sharing
Debbie
