Well, we are booked for a trip August 5- 11. The last time we went was in 2005, and in June. I just wanted to know how hot the AK park is in August. It was pretty hot in June, but we loved AK- just not the heat. Is it crowed and do you recommend going early? My kids are 3 and 7. Thanks!

We've gone the end of August twice now and it is certainly HOT and HUMID but you do get used to it, somewhat. ;)

Yes, the key is to go early and then leave and take a lunch or swim break and then head elsewhere after the hottest time of the day; maybe around 4:00p.

That's what we did everyday.

Funny thing; we went last August to ride EE. I thought, its not that bad. Well, my DDs were quick to point out how soaking wet my shirt was! :rotfl2: I actually was so used to it, I didn't even realize how hot I was. It was weird.

Anyway, have fun!

It gets very hot in August. We were there last year at the end of August and would definitely recommend going as early as you can, especially with kids that young.

We were there this past August, and it's definitely hot...everywhere. So, when you get to the AK you're likely not going to notice the difference between 96 degrees and 99 degrees. :)

August is HOT.

AK is the hottest park of all because of the way it was built and landscaped. It holds the heat better than the other parks and its at a lower 'sea level' point in comparison to the land around it .. so winds don't 'clear the air' as much.

It's Hot. It's darn hot. It's real hot. It"s so hot, you could cook things in your shorts. (To quote Good Morning Vietnam)

We were there is past August at the end of the month and it was quite mild to say the least. Tropical Storm Ernesto was out of the area and the temps were in the high 80's, humidity was not bad either. We normally go at this same time every year and it's not bad for us. Just make sure to drink a lot of fluids and remember that most of the attractions are in air condition so that helps a lot. I am in the process of getting plans together for another end of August trip. Have fun!!:)

hot, Hot, HOT! We always talk about how hot it was in August 2005! We came armed with our spray misters, lots of water--DS forgot his hat and I forgot my sunglasses so we ended up buying them in the gift shop as you enter.

The advice above is great. Go early... Also, drink plenty of water, and hope to get wet on KRR. It will feel great and the water will evaporate.

We went to ITTBB, and my kids hated the attraction...we LOVED the AC though!

In a nutshell, it is the hottest of the parks...

We haven't been in August, but once went during the first week of September. The thing that stands out in my mind the most was leaving the room with wet hair after showering in the morning...and never having it dry all day. Also, we felt like the energy had been zapped out of us. We currently have a resv. for the end of August and I'm really having second thoughts about going that time of the year.

During the week of Tropical Storm Ernesto... it was HOT!
but luckily we had a short rainfall, which cooled us off.
I wore my hair in a ponytail and we had misty fans with us the whole time... the misty fans were a lifesaver. We had fun spraying eachother with them too!!!! Still had a wonderful time .. positive attitude is key!

My DW and I went last August around the middle of the month. I thought that AK was the hottest and most humid park of all. I felt like the air does not flow well through the park, and I felt very little breeze. They have the spray misting fans around the park, which are okay if you are directly under them. However, I felt that the misting fans really made it much more humid in the surrounding area, so I don't think it was much of a benefit.

You can handle the heat, but bring plent of water or cash to buy water while you are there.

HOT, HUMID, BLISTERING SUN!!! Our neighbors went the first two weeks of August and had to spend the majority of time in their air-conditioned condo because their family was so miserable from the sweltering heat. (And we're from SC!)

IT IS AFRICA HOT !! That said, we have been the last 2 times mid Aug., and are goining again Aug.15. You can deal with the heat, just follow the advice of all the PPs!:thumbsup2

Some days can be very hot. Especially after it rains. But hey....thats why they have Blizzard Beach and the water rides.

Enjoy!

We went to WDW in August about 3 years ago, and it was so hot that we coined a new term in our family..

If it is so hot that you think you are going to die.. You say it is "Animal Kingdom" hot!!

We went in August of '00. We hit all the parks and waterparks. The only place I remember being miserably hot was AK.

First time at AK it was brutal...I think it was back in '99. And that was in Oct! Then, we went in mid-August. '03, and it was even more brutal. So...when we were there a few years ago, they had added fans nicely 'hidden' in the shrubbery. It did help a bit. Didn't make it pleasant but it did help move the air around.

We're going the same time frame the OP is...8/5-10, and expect to be very sticky!!! We get going early in the day, head back to our resort around lunchtime and spend a few hours at the pool. Then, shower, change and off to dinner and some more park time. Drink lots, more than you think you need.

We were there Aug. 3-12 last year. We went to AK one day and it was the most uncomfortable I was the entire time! It is SWELTERING hot. The manager at Boma was chatting with us at dinner that night and he said AK is typically 10 degrees hotter than the other parks. Our entire party was snarling at each other. DH gave up and went back to the hotel by about 1 PM. Really an unpleasant way to spend a day. We have yet to hit AK when the weather was really nice for touring.
