Won't most people be going to solar and generating their own power? Even in Seattle which is the worst place in the lower 48 states for solar I see many people installing panels on their roof.

i believe there are going to be tax incentives for solar as well. We’ve never even discussed solar panels at my house….until we got the Tesla. Now we’re considering it. It’s not like we didn’t know about EVs and panels before, but getting an EV and experiencing it… just moved us along that path more quickly I suppose.

It's about the same price in the major Alberta cities as it is in Ontario. Today BC is at $1.69/l. Newfoundland is $1.63/l. Not sure why gas is so inexpensive in Manitoba; $1.33/l on the chart I googled.

We've always been a little lower than the national average. People would be fainting in their cars if we ever got to $1.69

Yes, I would think so. People have to drive to work and do essential errands, but I would think they'll drive less for leisure driving...etc. But if overall prices get too high then there will be demand destruction.

When gas was really high in 2008/2009+ that was the end result at least in the U.S. people just couldn't afford to do leisure travel and started curtailing excess driving which also included errands (you found yourself asking "do I really need to get out". That's also what spurned large interests in hybrids and electric vehicles.

The tank in my compact cross-over holds 40 litres (a little more than 10 gallons). A decent gas discount here would be in the $0.06/l range. No way I'm ever going out of my way for that kind of money.

The gas tax in NJ went DOWN on October 1, yet prices continue to rise. About two weeks ago I filled up at $3.33 in the morning. About two hours later I drove by and saw that it increased to $3.43!!

The 15 cents off per gallon in October at Wawa has been nothing but a hassle in NJ. About October 4th I tried to get the discount and the attendant didn't know what to do. I went to a different Wawa a few miles away and that attendant was totally clueless about the promotion, so I just paid normally with a credit card. I called the headquarters to complain and they apologized and sent me a $5 e-gift card.

About a week later, I tried again, and the app crashed because it was free coffee day for rewards members. The app also crashed on free Shorti day in August. But in both cases the stores honored the coffee/Shorti promos. But I couldn't get the gas discount, so I stopped trying. It wasn't worth the hassle to save $2.

Royal Farms gas discount works very smoothly. It has to be tied to your checking account. The full price is debited, then a few days later a credit appears. But I still prefer Wawa overall. The inside of Royal Farms smells like rancid grease from frying chicken.

Yeah, occasionally I see long gas lines at Costco, BJs, and the like. Usually the difference in price isn't anywhere near 20 cents per gallon, maybe 7 to 9 cents. I can't imagine waiting in those lines to save $1.50 for a fill up.

You don't need a membership in NJ to get gas at those places in NJ, and I sometimes stop there when it isn't busy. I think you don't need to be a member to access pharmacy, optical, and things like an outside cell phone seller either.

I've never paid $4 or more per gallon. Around Memorial Day weekend 2008 prices were flirting with $4, and some stations passed it slightly, but I lucked out and got a fill up at $3.97. The next time I needed gas prices dropped to around $3.80.

Here in KY, the prices have gone down some. It was up to about $3.25 a week or so ago, but most places are about $3.10 now and I saw it was $2.98 at Sam's Club.

My wife likes it. "Jersey Girls Don't Pump Gas!", but many times I'd rather pump my own.

Once she was in Pennsylvania and called panicked that she was running low on gas. I told her she had more than enough to get home, but she wanted to know what to do if necessary. I told her someone would see her NJ plates, roll their eyes, and then show her how to do it.

They've been going up 10 cents every week for the past couple of weeks. No idea when this stops as gas prices are usually seasonal and high in the summer months. This is very unusual. I guess I'll work from home more often.

Sure, if prices get high enough. I remember back in the 70s when we had the oil shocks, my father found another guy who worked in the same area and the same hours and they car pooled.

Around where I live, in suburban NJ, people were very reluctant to use mass transit into the city. I live a couple of blocks from the train station for literally 18 months the parking lot was empty every. People who were commuting into the city....have been driving. But I'm just starting to notice that people are beginning to take the train again. It's not nearly what 2019 looked like, but it's beginning to change as people have been getting vaccinated and especially now with everyone getting their booster.

From what I understand, the issue of self serve gas is brought up every so often and most NJ residents will tar and feather any politician who dares to advance such a proposal.

There are many lame excuses, such as safety, unemployment, etc. but the real reason is pumping your own gas is an inconvenience when you’re accustomed to having someone do it for you.

(I’m a former NJ resident so I know of what I speak. I enjoyed having such service too. If I’m in NJ with less than half a tank, I often top off there.)
