It used to work pretty well with Fastpass. Fastpass had an actual button called 'refresh.' Over time, parkgoers figured out that you could get better options if you kept pressing the refresh button over and over and over. Like for 30-60minutes. Though that is the short answer. How well it worked varied over time, and how crowded the parks were.what is the refresh method?
Lightning Lane Multiple Pass isn't quite the same. LLMP has 2 parts: prebooked passes (before the day), and additional passes (after using 1st pass).
1. Prebooks- they are sorta their own thing. Once you book passes, you can sometimes successfully opt to modify them, and if you keep trying, get better times. That said, often your best bet is to book the times you are initially offered, and THEN try to modify. (assuming you try to book right at 7am on the first day you can book).
2. After you use each pass, you can book another pass (4th pass). There are now more buttons to press through when trying to book a 4th pass than there was with fastpass, and only the last screen really matters. The time you appear to be offered on the 2nd to last screen is often - usually - a DIFFERENT time than the pass you are actually able to book.
So when booking that 4th pass, you can keep toggling back and forth before booking a pass (and 5th, 6th passes). if you choose.
Even after you book any pass, you can keep trying to modify it.
Sometimes refreshing can work, but the effort often only gets you a time that is 5-10minutes earlier. On the other hand, those unbookable phantom times can be a bit frustrating. Other times, if you try to modify a pass- there is no other option. They will just be sold out for the day. Once in a while, a ride that has just sold out will show up again, though with a very late return time.
