My DH and I have been interested in buying DVC for 3 years now. We have finally decided to do it. I am not crazy about SS. Thinking about resale. I have found an attractive contract at OKW. If I do not always want to stay there how hard will it be to make reservations 7 month out at other resorts? :confused3

It depends, on when you want to go, and what type of villa you are interested in renting. Standard View BWV, Epcot resorts around F&W time, VWL in December are difficult to get. BCV owners are paying a premium buying on the resale market, and so, it may be very hard to get in there at many times of the year. No one knows for sure about availability, so people here generally say buy where you want to stay the most. We use most of our points at BWV and VWL the 2 on site places that we own.
Bobbi :)

I bought a 2 resales VWL and BWV's. Buy where you want to stay. I heard that here over and over. Christmas season at VWl is impossibe if you don't own there and BWV have the Standard and preferred rooms. at 7 months points are points.

I don't think it is as difficult as most people make it out to be to book at the 7 month window, but it does depend on when you are going and what type of room you want. I easily got a BWV 2bdrm at 7 months for Sept this year. If you plan to go off season I wouldn't worry about it. if you need to go at peak time buy where you want to stay.

I tried to make a reservation this morning for a standard BWV studio at the beginning of the 7 month window (for early March). No way. No vacancies.

book were you want to stay so you have the choice if you can plan 7+ months in advance.

if you can't plan inadvance, then it doesn't matter, but also don't "complain" about not being able to select your resort (or room size).

your question is the issue we all faced... very common question.

on the other hand... if you make the "wrong" choice... you can always sell OKW and buy your new "prefence"... nothing is forever...

note: i just came back from a week at OKW (1 BDR) and booked late may/ early june (approx 60 days).... and got a great room and had a great experience (kids loved the pool). remember it is the vacation & family time that really counts.

I've gotten a full week at BCV 7 days prior to arrival. (Feb, studio)

I just got 5 nights at BWV Stand View (Jan/MLK week, 1BR)

Having followed this and being the queen of late booking. (Calling from the airport on your way to MCO is LATE booking) my thoughts are..

For early December it's difficult anyplace. SSR and OKW are easiest.

For Food & Wine time, it's difficult at BCV and BWV.

For PEAK times (Christmas, Easter, President's Day) it can be difficult even at 11 months!

For BWV Standard View ALL bets are off. There is a LOT more demand for those rooms then there are rooms. If you really want that buy BWV and BOOK early! 11 months day by day is not being excessive here.

We tried to make a ressie at the 7mth window at VWL for 12/03-12/08. On the phone at 9AM sharp 05/09 and it was IMPOSSIBLE---wait listed, nothing is opening up....my advice, buy where you want to stay.

As Carol said it really depends on when you want, what size unit and where.

We have booked every DVC location at 7 months for June, July and August without any problems in a 2 bedroom.

We have booked in March at 7 months at all locations for a 2 bedroom.

I have booked a one bedroom at BW within 2 weeks during August.

VWL is the smallest of all the properties. If you don't own there you can forget about getting it on the popular times. It is hard enough at 8 months. They go quickly. Now with the commercial renters out of the picture, things might change some, but it is still a very small resort. If that is the one you want, you better buy there to get the 11 month window. Same for the standview view at BWV's. I guess now we will see if time will tell if any changes are going to really take place for DVC owners to have a better chance of getting better times.
