How hard to book VGC off season?

I am so torn. I have pretty much decided to buy some points at VGC so we could go a few nights a year since we moved to Seattle and it's so much closer than Orlando. However, the price on resales at WDW is so attractive that it's hard to justify the cost UNLESS the only way we will ever be able to stay at VGC is to book at the 11 month mark? What do you guys think? We only travel off-season so probably Sept or May, so do you think we'd have a chance at the 7 month mark? I am so torn but don't want to find out the hard way that we really, really needed the VGC point since there are so few rooms available...? We would book at studio or 1 BR.

We bought VGC as we have no faith that we could book it in low seasons at the 7 month window.

I bought at GCV because I believe that booking there will always be next to impossible at 11 months nevermind the 7 month window. There just aren't enough units available there. I almost always book a studio and have found it darn near impossible even at WDW to make a reservation for what I want within the 7 month window and that is usually going off season according to the point charts. I tried a couple of months ago to get a studio anywhere for the last week of June and could not get a studio except for the last 3 nights I needed. You used to be able to at least get something at OKW or SSR but the last couple of years I have had to waitlist almost every time. This time I've cancelled my DVC reservation and will be slumming at the ASMu with the buy 4 get 3 promo that just ended. I'm probably going to use my points for my California trip instead.

I bought points to have the 11 month window. There will only be 48 total units so 7 months will prolly be nearly impossible to book .

We too felt that having the 11 month window would be very, very important and think it will be nearly impossible without it. We could be proven incorrect, but with so few units and over a million points to sell - we really didn't want to risk it.

Just wondering: How do you see your future usage pattern for DL? Will you be likely to plan your trips 7-11 months out?

For us, we decided against buying VGC as our DL visits tend to be more "spontaneous" in nature.

I'll be booking VGC at the 11-month window, just like all my trips to WDW.

Thanks everyone, I guess that is what I kind of suspected since there is only one DL DVC for now. I guess the extra cost is probably worth the peace of mind, although it is kind of hard for us to book 11 months out...

I believe VGC will have low maintenance costs and high resale value. If you factor that in, the cost to own a VGC will probably be one of the lowest.

DH and I were also thinking the resale value would remain high from demand, so thanks for confirming that thought. :thumbsup2

I am not surprised. The last week of June is Magic season (hardly an "off season"). Booking any WDW DVC resort for late June on 4 months notice is going to be tough.

Also, if the VGC is going to be "next to impossible" to book at the 11 month window, why would you or I buy into it? That I do not believe.

I think it will be hard at 11 months certain times of the year, and weekdays harder to get than weekends. I do think it will be very difficult to get a booking at 7 months. When are reservations opening again? Already thinking about next year's food & wine...

I believe it's around June 7th...

I know the last week in June is Magic Season. I don't normally try to book for June since I can't stand how hot it gets in FL then. Unfortunately the dates aren't flexible and I kept forgetting to call. By the time I got around to it there wasn't anything available anywhere DVC on DVC points. In the past I've always been able to get split stays to cover my dates but not this time.
