How Hard Is It To Get HHI?

Thanks everyone for the great HHI info! I may try for the spring. It's funny you mention OC, MD, we stopped going there 4 years ago for every reason everybody stated! We now go to LBI, NJ. Very quiet, family friendly. Some people mentioned traffic, from my experience there is always heavy traffic getting into and out of a beach town; regardless of the town.

Would never work for us; kiddos are back in school by Aug 18.

That's why it's so easy to get though but even week 32 is much easier than the rest. We're empty nesters and it magnifies the options of trading many fold as it does for home schoolers and those with year round school with odd breaks. Got my daughter and her husband HI in Sept for 2 weeks (1 BR Ocean front Maui Marriott using my 1 BR trading unit and a studio at Ko"Olina using a bonus week), 2 weeks for us in HI this winter (using Bluegreen points), Aruba in Jan for 11 days 2009 (that darn Marriott trader and a 2 BR at the Hilton in Orlando this fall using a week that has a value of about $150 (plus exchange fee of course). Timesharing is so much different, and better, when you're not limited to the school calendar.

  • DVC VB 2 BR using a different trading week
  • Marriott Grande Vista 2 BR last fall (using the studio portion of our Marriott Trader)
  • Multiple DVC WDW units mostly all 1 or 2 BR using various cheaper trading units.

The truth is that I generally prefer traveling during shoulder and off season unless there's some reason not to, like it's very cold weather. I don't mind the heat so going to MX or the Caribbean in summer is OK.

That is what our DVC contract is for. We have a platinum eoy Marriott Barony week for travel with the kids. The DVC points at HHI are for DH and I w/o kids. We then have Grande Vista for our family Orlando trips eoy also. It will only get more complicated as soon both kids will be in different colleges with different breaks. We may get all of the trip w/o kids soon enough!:rolleyes1

Do your EOY and seasons match up so you can reserve those 13 months out rather than 12?

No, unfortunately they only count at one year of ownership because the are opposites. We do get priority at both resorts though. We bought one to visit and one to trade with an occasional stay. After 7 years, we still haven't stayed there!:rolleyes1
