How hard is it to get a Christmas booking?

Hi everyone,

I've rented several times in the past, and have noticed it's been getting more and more difficult to get rentals at key times like in the fall.

Anyways, we were debating coming for Christmas with family, next year or in 2008.

If we can rent 12 months out, how hard do you think it will be to get a 2 bedroom at BWV for Christmas week?

I would start posting your request about 12 months out, but remember that DVC members can't reserve the room until 11 month out (if you rent from a BWV owner) or 7 months out (if they own elsewhere). If you can find a BWV owner early in the 11 month window, you probably won't have too much trouble getting what you want.

Also much easier if you can go the week before Christmas, instead of the week between Christmas and New Years

Plan on paying a premium for that reservation, too.

I got my reservation easy enough booking day by day at the 11 month mark but it was with my own points.

Okay, I know that I'm in a "mood" today, but I'm going to put this out there anyway: I hate renting. Renters are getting rooms at prime times at resorts that members can't get at the 7 month window because they're renting the points at the 11 month mark.

I almost rented my points a few months back, but changed my mind. One of the reasons was that I found another use for my points. Another reason is that it was a prime two-week period that MEMBERS should have first pick of not "non-member renters".

While I agree with the sentiments, there is probably little that can be done to stop that practice. The enforcement of the one transfer limit WILL help keep "commercial" renters from getting far more points than they own in order to book prime weeks then rent the ressie, but I don't see how we can prevent someone from doing that with points they own at their home resort, unless MS forbade folks from changing names on ALL reservations. Which would really be a problem for many legitimate members trying to book a family get together (ie, they book the rooms at 11 months, then decide who will occupy which room). I really thing MS is doing the right thing by enforcing existing rules without creating new rules.

Renters will HAVE to book earlier and earlier for prime weeks, as the point pool available to commercial renters has decreased.
