How hard is it to add a day?

Working on a plan for our 2nd trip to FW and have run into a question. Sorry if it's been asked a million times before... but how hard is it to add a day?

We're going in December so I know availability will probably be the biggest issue. However, if there is space available, how hard would it be to add a day to our December ressie at the Fort and could we add the day without adding additional tickets or DDP dates?

Also, is it likely that we'd have to move to a different site?

In mapping out all that we want to do, including setting aside time to visit some of the resorts and see the fort during the holidays, we feel like we need at least one more day. The option would be to find a nearby hotel and just pulll in for the night and spend an additional day at one of the parks. We have enough days on our tickets, just not enough time:confused3

Call CRO and wait for ressie change prompt, hit in your ressie number and go from there.

If the day is available, there will be no problem. They will just add it to your ressie so there will be no site change. If you were to wait until you were at FW to add your day, you might have to move.

Last year at Christmas we decided to add a day and at first they did not have a day. We kept checking everyday while we were there and they finally had a day open and we were able to stay and did not have to move. That being said...this last trip in June we wanted to add a day and they said they did not have anything yet everyday we would see numerous sites vacant, even in the loop we were in, but they said they were booked so we had to leave. Just keep trying, even while you are there at FW as people cancel all the time and sites open up.

It's easy to add a day if there's availability, but first, think about whether you really want to. If you add a day to your reservation that has DDP, you will automatically add a day of DDP. You don't have to change the number of days on your park tickets, but DDP will change. So, if there's availability, you need to choose whether you want to add another day to your existing reservation--which will add another DDP day--or whether you want to set up a second "room-only" reservation, with no DDP and no tickets. It would only pay for the campsite. If you add to your original reservation and DDP but don't plan to add an extra day of park tickets, check that part of your reservation closely, just to make sure an extra day of park tickets didn't slip in there unwanted. Extra days of park tickets are pretty cheap, though, once you get past about 4 days and may be worth it even if you only go in for an hour or two.

If you add to your original reservation, you will not have to switch campsites. If you do the 2nd reservation, they normally will not make you switch unless something huge is going on, like some group has your whole loop reserved, but that's pretty unlikely. When we were there, I had to re-register 3 times due to varying types of reservations, and I never had to switch campsites. I also tended to get down there pretty early in the morning to do it, just to help avoid problems.

The other thing we did was that we packed up at FW and moved to a hotel for our last couple of days. As much as we love camping and FW, I still love a nice hotel, too. My camping kids got a big kick out of being on the 20th floor of the Dolphin, and DH and I got to alleviate some of our "gotta check out of FW" depression by not having to leave Disney quite yet. It was also nice not to have to start all those hours of driving right after packing up, and we got really lucky--a big rainstorm came in just as we were pulling out. It was great to know that our popup was packed up all nice and dry and parked in the hotel parkng lot as we watched the rainfall from indoors on the 20th floor!

Good luck with your reservation, and have a great trip! :goodvibes I really want to see WDW at Christmas someday, too.

Thanks for the help. I actually like the idea of adding a night at one of the hotels - the night we check out. I just wasn't sure if we'd be able to park the popup at the resort hotels or not...

If we did that the night before we go to the Fort, what are the odds that we could check into the fort early on that Sunday we arrive?? Anyone know?
