We may be able to upgrade to a MK view at the GF... wondering if you really can see the fire works from your balconey and if it is really worth it.

Plus - can anyone tell me where in the heck is the GF thread ?

Thanks!!!

sorry i cant help but i think the GF thread was temporarily closed because of it getting too catty (whenever i see a locked thread i have a look to see why its locked :)) its probably somewhere down a few pages. you'll be able to find the link for it in the stickys at the top of this board though.

I have not stayed in an MK-view room at the GF, but I can say that I was not impressed with the MK views from the grounds of the GF and I have no reason to believe that the view from rooms would be better. The Contemporary and Poly seem to have better MK views.

From what I have read the Grand Floridian Magic Kingdom View will either be of Cinderella's Castle or Space Mountain. So it's not a full park like view like the one at the Contemporary and some of the rooms with the view Cinderella's Castle might have trees blocking the view.

We've stayed at GF twice. Our first trip as a family in 1999 we stayed in Boca Chica Lagoon View . . .it faced the Contemporary Resort, but on the balcony looking to the left, you saw Cinderella's Castle.

In 2002, we stayed in Conch Key and it faced Cinderella Castle . . .I thought it had a really good view. We were on the 2nd floor.

If you want to stay there, I would make a request for Conch Key 2nd or 3rd floor and mention no tree obstruction. We were lucky to not have a tree in front of our balcony, but there were some rooms that did face Cinderella Castle that had a lovely tree view . . .:rotfl: Also, the lagoon views have a nice electric water pageant that runs nightly that the kids really liked when they were young.

I guess I would second the suggestion to request second or three floor because our first floor view was certainly not worth the extra money. Our "theme park view" was the top of Cinderella's Castle (not bad), a lot of trees, and the barge that was taking equipment and supplies back and forth to a wedding over at the Pavilion.

It was kind of funny because when we called our 'old' resort (we were doing a split-stay) to get our room back the woman on the phone knew exactly which building we were in from our criticism of the 'theme park view' ;)

Personally, I've seen the pictures people have posted of their Contemporary theme park view and I think that is absolutely worth the money. You can actually see the park ;)

But YMMV...it's up to you and what it is worth for your family :goodvibes

Julia ~ depending on the season the cost of a theme park view is only $20 less than staying Sugar Loaf. Sugar Loaf is club level and really nice! We stayed there last June.

The view of the castle isn't the *best* at Disney but the resort is WONDERFUL.

That extra $20 a night would get you IPO to help with all of your ADrs and planning, free drinks (including adult kind)
A continental breakfast that is out of this world yummy ~
snacks and treats all day in the lounge ~ afternoon tea which is very similar to the tea they have in the Garden view tea room. Evening desserts ~ you don't have to stand in line for check in and you get much more personalized service!
For me ~ that makes for a better vacation than the theme park view from the GF... KWIM? You can always step right outside and see the castle :thumbsup2
I am staying in the main building this summer and I am hoping to get the theme park view but its by request only (not a different booking category)

There is a club level lounge photo thread ~ If I were you I would take a look at that for Sugar loaf. :rolleyes1

Thanks every one for your imput.:thumbsup2

We are staying the last week of July on a 40% discount military rate, and there were no club level or main house rooms available... so it is garden room view or MK those are our two choices...

Good tip about being on second or third floor.... what about the 4th floor... would that take care of the tree issue?;)

and thank you for the GF thread link!!!! I hope we get a new thread soon!

We will be there close to the same time! I hear you on the discount rate~ those discounts mean more mickey bars :cheer2: You will love being there no matter which room you pick. The view is further away than the other 2 monorail resorts BUT its still beautiful to see the castle and the GF has many other things going for it!

If you were staying Poly or CR I would say go for the theme park view BABY ~ but the price difference at the GF... I am just not so sure its worth the extra money as it is a good distance away. You can also walk to the marina or boat dock to see the fireworks. It's really up to you ~ if the extra money means more mickey bars than I would stay GV ~ if you can swing the extra dough than it would be nice as well :cheer2:

We will be there from the 17th until the 27th. Are you going to be around then?

Our trip is July 26th thru August 2nd...:woohoo:

I think we have decided to make this a 'budget' trip and just stay in a GV... for heavens sakes... the veiws are so beautiful no matter where you are at the GF ... that we would rather save the $$$$$ - we can just take a boat ride or watch from the beach if we want to see the fireworks. ;)

We stayed at GF December 2007. We paid for a "theme park view" also. After a long day at the parks we got to our room and the first thing I did was go out on the balcony to see our view...you know what I saw....a BIG PINE TREE! I was ticked to say the least. So, I promptly called down to guest services at the hotel and VERY VERY nicely told them my disppointment in the room. They were SO nice and understanding. They apologized profusely and proceeded to move us to the building next door (sorry right now I can't think of the building....) into a MUCH bigger corner room with 2 balconies. This time we had a very clear view of the castle. We could hear the music from MK and could clearly watch wishes from our room. It was wonderful!! GF is by far my favorite resort at Disney. With that said....I think the theme park views from CR are better just because the resort itself is closer to MK. Have a GREAT TRIP!!

You know, I love the GF - we stay there for every WDW vacation (except once when we decided pretty last minute and stayed at the CR). But this really bugs me - how can they charge you that much more for a MK view and put you in a room where a big pine tree blockes that very view you paid so much to see?!? That room should not be considered MK view. Thankfully they moved you, but you just know someone will get stuck in that room who's afraid to speak up...either cut the tree down or make it a GV (or tree-view;)) room.

Rant over...and the GF truly is our favorite resort

both times we stayed at GF we had a castle view
1995- Great view
2005- we were infront of the marina- main building CL Honeymoon roon- This was the bestest ever so wonderful and romantic- We renewed our wedding vows at the WP and this was a 2nd honeymoon for us, perfect

We were in Boca Chica bldg, 4th floor corner dormer room and had a great view of MK. We saw all the fireworks and could even hear the music. It was great in the early morning before the park opened to sit on the balcony and watch WDW come alive. It was very quiet... We've been in that bldg. twice, but that room was the best.
