I live in NJ, I can walk to several bus stops from my house, have several train stations under a 20 minute drive (there is a jitney in town, free, that goes to one of them).

I am in Jersey Shore area and we have nothing like that. Typical though. There is a marked difference between Northern and Southern NJ and the infrastructure and funding.

I used public transit for a while to get to work.

It involved a 30 minute drive, a 45 minute bus ride, and finally a 5 minute train ride. Then the reverse to get home.

If Marta (Atlanta's subway) came out further it would be a lot more useful.

In Sacramento, we love our cars. I guess if you live right by a bus line, you could ride the bus somewhere? They all go to the light rail which takes you downtown. Downtown is mostly for state workers and no one goes there at night (unless it's to a Kings game). You wouldn't dare ride the light rail at night.

My husband works for a large company, and I hear him on the phone all of the time explaining to co-workers that north and south Jersey are like two different states, friends who’ve moved south agree.
