How good are the lagoon views at the Polynesian?

I am currently booked at the Poly GV from 2/16-2/20... Because of the new code CTN, we saved nearly $500 more than we were paying using a AAA rate. We could upgrade to a LV room for $290 more for all four nights... technically, we would still be saving $200 from the original AAA rate. I don't know if I should go for it-there will be 5 of us in the room, so it might be nice to have a great view from the balcony--the question is, are the LV room views much better than the GV room views to make the money difference worth it? How do the castle views compare to the GF castle views? If I should upgrade, which longhouse is the best? Thank you for your input!!

LV rooms at Polynesian are some of the best on property. Hawaii (concierge) and Tahiti (non-concierge) are my personal favorites. Tahiti has the added benefit of a secluded beach area as well!

As to whether or not it's worth the extra couple to few hundred $$, only you can answer that one. Frankly, we don't think so now that our kids are teens. First, we aren't in the room in the evening all that often. When we are there in the afternoon (every day there's no p.m. rain), we are outside at the pool or beachside--no need for a LV room. Second, if I'm spending the additional $$, I'm going GV concierge--just can't justify paying the extra money for the view at this stage of the game when we can all enjoy the added amenities in concierge.

All of that said, when our children were young and we were back in our room early in the evening, it was great to have the LV, or better view at another resort, to enjoy after they were in bed by 8:00 p.m. It's just a matter of perspective. I know there are many here that would differ with my view and just so LOVE the view, for our family--we'd rather enjoy the view from outdoors. Then again, we go in June and don't have to deal with "cold" weather--just the storms.

If you can afford it, and spend a decent amount of time in the room, I would go for it. We stayed in Tahiti a couple years ago on the first floor, and the view was amazing! I've never stayed at the GF castle view so I can't compare. Obviously the castle at the GF would appear closer, but the Poly view was still unbelievable. The nice thing about Tahiti (at least where we were) is there is no pathway open to people in front of your room. We slept with the blinds open to see the castle. During the day, we just opened the door and let my son play in the sand right there. Tahiti is furthest from the GCH (a beautiful walk though) but minutes away from the TTC. With the exception of the concierge longhouse, I think Tahiti offers the best lagoon views.

We've stayed in the Hawaii (concierge) longhouse with a lagoon view, and really liked it. We've also stayed lagoon view at the Grand Floridian a few times, as well as MK view from the Contemporary tower. All the resorts have a good MK view.

The lagoon view from the LV rooms we've had is great... but I don't usually request a LV.

We get plenty of good lagoon views when strolling the grounds or sitting in a glider on the beach. I've found that, for us, the lagoon view is nice, but not something that's important to us.

We enjoy the beauty of the lush tropical foliage in the Garden View rooms just as much.

The lagoon views from Tahiti are amazing. We sat on our patio and watched the fireworks everynight. We felt it was definately worth the money.

I agree with Tess totally. Our kids are little so we are usually in the room when the fireworks go off, so this is the only way we get to see fireworks some nights.

Also, there is NOTHING like waking up in the middle of the night and catching a glimpse of the castle while it is lit and turning different colors all night!

My favorites are Hawaii (concierge) and Tahiti.

We love the garden view rooms at the Polynesian. Beautiful, peaceful and at least in Hawaii I think they seem more private. We have rarely paid for lagoon view since the gardenview rooms are so wonderful.

However we did do lagoon view in Hawaii in November and WISHES is so spectacular that I made reservations for lagoon view again for March. Of course you can always make the short walk from any room to a beach to see WISHES. But I loved it from our room.

Really I don't think you can go wrong. Try one this trip and the other another time and see what you like best.

We've stayed at the GF but only in Sugar Loaf which doesn't afford a castle view. But I like the view of the MK better from the Polynesian than from the GF.

I just booked a LV room at the Poly-hoping for a great Ap discount rate for may 20-24. After I saw the WISHES show I knew that I would return to Disney and get a lagoon view at a great resort ( I couldn't decide between the GF or the POLY-so this trip we will try the POLY). I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
I am soo hooked-on-disney! I look forward to each trip because I try to do different things each time. Our last trip was a few months ago in nov-03 and we stayed at FT. Wilderness cabins. I know this will be stretching the pocket going to the POLY but I believe it will all be worth it when my family sees where we are staying!

Just spent 12/31, 1/1, and 1/2 in Tahiti lagoon view. Was it worth the extra $$$? It was. We're not night owls and we were all in bed and asleep at midnight on New Year's Eve. When the fireworks started at MK, I quietly got out of bed, pulled a chair up to our window and sat there watching the most amazing New Year's Eve fireworks I've ever seen. Then I crawled back into my nice warm bed next to my DH (who doesn't really "get" fireworks and just said "uh" when I told him how wonderful they had been) and went back to sleep. Sigh.... Wish I was there still.

We booked a LV room and requested Tahiti for our trip coming up in less than 2 weeks. We stayed in Tokelau room 2919 last March and had a view of the lagoon and the CR. We just want to be able to watch the fireworks and the Electrical Light Parade from our room this time. This side of the resort is real quiet also!

Jenni -- It was 1032. I don't usually request specific room numbers, but all the rooms from 1030 up that side of the hall (1032, 1034, 1036) had lovely views and a very secluded quiet beach.

The lagoon views at the Poly were spectacular! we stayed in Tahiti 3rd floor on our honeymoon this past October...WOW. I agree that it was great to glance out the window and see the castle, etc. The view topped off a fabulous trip.

My kids are still small so we are in most evenings. We had the opportunity to watch Wishes from our third floor at Tahiti twice and it is unbelievable!!

The short walk to the TTC is also a big plus. Maybe when the girls are older and we just come back to the room to sleep we'll stop paying the extra money but we do use it to relax at the end of the day!
