I was just reading Honeywolfe's post and was wondering.......how fast can you type?

I can type about 130 WPM. The reason I think is because when I was a child I would go to my mother's office every day after school. There was an extra typewriter in the back where I stayed and I would sit there for 2 hours every day typing.

I really didn't know at the time that I was teaching myself how to type (because I certainly wasn't using the correct fingers) but I would go through the A.B.C.s and type my name and the names of all my family. I guess in those 3-4 years that I stayed there I in a way memorized where the keys were.

When I got to high school typing I was heads and tails above everyone else because I "knew" where the keys were and by the time my teacher had taught me the correct hand and finger positions I was flying.

I enjoy typing, I would rather type something out in Word than write it any day. I still love playing typing games just to see how fast I can go. There is one out there somewhere called Typer Shak that is soooooo much fun but you have to buy it.

Anyway just curious if you type faster or slower and if you type faster how you learned. On a side note before my dad passed away I bet he could type 80-90 WPM by pecking.......he typed with two fingers but boy could those two fingers move....LOL!

I don't know, but I'm sure it's pitiful. When I was in college, I applied for a job at an insurance company and never even made it to the interview level because of my typing test results.  :teeth: The lady administering the test did say that I had beautiful hair!;) ;) :teeth:

I've no idea what my speed is now, but it used to be 55wpm

I dropped typing in HS school if that tells you anything about my skills. WHO drops typing?? Of course, if I had known I'd ever like playing on the computer, I wouldn't have dropped it.

I took the test. If I told you my results, I'd have to kill you. Let's just say that can't hold a candle to you dear father, Beauty.

When I was in school my typing teacher told me if I could not get to her class on time don't bother coming at all. I said no problem, picked up my books and never returned. I took a psychology class instead. I don't have a clue what I type but I know it's awful, LOL.

about 250 wpm...we are talking 'w's per minute right? If I alter caps and lower case, the number drops substantially....wow...you guys are SLOW...maybe I can get a real good job with my typing skills...:teeth:

I just took the typing test:

gross speed 67
errors : two words
net speed: 65
Accuracy : 97%

Wow, better than I thought it would be.

I can do about 103 (from Highschool typing class, then from all those darn papers and powerpoint projects during college).

There's this new keyboard, though, that allows people to type upwards of 200 wpm (words per minute :) ) It's called the Dvorak method. The keyboarding goes as follows:

kbdvorak.gif

Weird, huh? It puts all vowels on your left hand, making both hands type, not just one (as in, stewardessess, the longest word spelled with just the left hand). Anyway, I can't imagine learning that method....I mean, after learning that method, losing all knowledge of the QWERTY method, you'd have to bring your keyboard everywhere you go :)

I just took the test and it said 55 wpm.

My mother was a typing teacher, so I learned pretty early to type...she is a speed demon, however, who I could never live up to!! lol

Hm, mine was just about what it was when I typed regularly in the past. Net words (after 88 wpm and 8 errors) was 64 wpm. At least I hadn't gotten worse over the years.:)

I scored 68 but my errors were really high. I just might have to go back there and do it again.

I haven't taken a typing test in about 20 years.

Well I'm not as fast as the last time I tried or the last test I took, it only says 97 WPM and I made 3 mistakes.
