How far in advance do the weeks between thanksgiving and xmas typically book up? Obviously the 11 months window is key but do people still have luck at 7 months or is that unheard of (specifically 1 bedroom)?

I've been able to book studios at BCV & BWV at 7 months for the 2 weekend in Dec.

That will vary by room size and resort, but most owners do book during the 11 month window. There is usually availability at the larger resorts, SSR, OKW, and soon likely AKV Kidani, at the 7 month window.

In the past 7 months out has been OK, this year there has been little availability outside the 11 month window. Even SSR and OKW weren't readily available at 7 months out.

How about the week between Xmas and NYE (studios)? Same thing? Need to book at 11 months or forget it?

I would book at 11 months for the Holiday week. NYE has historically been the most difficult night to book, and there used to be a lottery system for DVCers to be able to even make a reservation during the Christmas to NYE week.

That one is going to be a lot harder! It would be easier for a 1 bedroom than a studio, but NYE is often completely booked before the 7 month window opens.

We have never gone anywhere over the holidays...I am not sure I'm really & truely "up" for the crowds...they sound pretty scary. I just got a copy of DS's proposed school calendar for 2009-2010 and there are hardly ANY really LONG weekends. There are about 3 that have a Friday or a Monday off...no 4 day ones at all which would be a perfect get-a-way.:headache: They are MESSIN' with me!:rotfl: I just wondered about the holidays 'cuz we were hoping to plan for an extended family trip in August but with the economy the way it is I am not sure if anybody is really going to join us or not. I've asked them to decide by mid-January tho...so I was just sorta kicking around some "what if's" for our points if nobody joins us... I figured that would be something to book as early as possible tho...I wasn't sure if there was ever anything available at 7 or 8 months out and we usually do studios to maximize our measley ownership...have to be frugal somewhere and since I don't cook on vacation there is no huge need for a full kitchen. It is certainly something I will keep in my memory bank tho!:goodvibes

I would think the days 12/21, 22, 23 would be really popular b/c it is "Choice" season and MUCH less points--are these days easier that the following week?

I was able to get 15 nights in a one bedroom at SSR at the 7 months mark. OKW was also available. Many nights at other resorts were available, but I would have had to waitlist a day here and there. I chose the sure thing. I didn't want to move during my nice long stay

Two different questions here. Obviously, from what you see in this thread, it is not "unheard of" to get lucky at 7 months.

But your first sentence says "typically". I think that if you want a reservation between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, you should plan on booking at the 11 month window on the dot. Then you can try to move at 7 months, but depending on where you want to go you may be out of luck. VWL and BCV will be the hardest to book at 7 months due to their size. SSR, AKV and OKW will be the easiest to book for the same reason.

Good luck! :)
