The program I'm looking at is 30 weeks for a marathon. Seems far out, but then I've never done a full. Just curious when most people start training. popcorn::

For Halfs I use one that is about 14-16 weeks.

It's never to early to start building your base and as you approach 12-16 weeks you should be starting your increase.

Good luck and see you in Jan!

I hope to do the 1/2 in January 2010 and have already started. I am a walker and am trying to incorporate jogging into it.

Depends if you have a base...meaning if you are runing or not. I keep a base after the WDW Goofy, so I start following my schedule 18 weeks out. If you are starting out with zero miles, then yes...it's never to early to start training.

and, base also = core strength, flexibility and building up your running/walking/jogging endurance with speed and hill drills included. At the 12-16 week approach, you should be stronger and have endurance to work through so you don't injure yourself in those weeks immediately leading up to the event.

I'm in week 15 of a 38 week program...

Only 163 days to go!

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

There really is no correct answer. Like as been said before, it all depends on your base. Even though we are out of season in Florida, I 'll still keep a small base up.

When we get to summer I scale back the running and will bicycle and use my Pilates video more. Still will use my Bowflex every other day. But, it gets really warm here. In early Sept I will start the Goofy training but will have a good fitness base and a 10 mile a week running base.

My problem is if I start training for Goofy too early I'll get burned out.

Good luck!
