We are driving from Canada next week and wonder if we should stay a few nights at HH before hitting OKW?

We were going to drive until we got tired with no specific plans on a hotel but thought that HH might be an option.

Any thoughts?

The drive time is about 5 hours (we only stop once for gas). If you're just planning to do one quick night and hit the road again, you'd be better off getting a regular hotel room in Bluffton--it's a lot closer off the I-95. DVC takes you all the way onto the island, about a 45 minute drive from the I-95. However, if you want to experience the resort a bit that's another story. Everyone seems to love it there. HTH

Also you might consider the Jacksonville traffic issue. It really gets bad during rush hour so wherever you stop, you might want to be sure you're not going to hit Jacksonville at the wrong time of day.

Stopping at HH can be really nice. If you're going to get there early, say by 4:00 pm, and stay till about 11:00 am the next morning, it would be worth it. That would give you plenty of time to enjoy the resort, and take in some of the evening's activities.

Also, leaving HH at 11:00 am the next morning will get you to OKW right about check-in time.

If you're looking to stop for the night at 7:00 pm and leave at 7:00 am, then just get a regular hotel room somewhere.

Is there a beach area that is not the long drive to the island?

Is it worth the drive?

thanks

Because of the intra-coastal waterway, you have to drive all the way onto the island to get to open beach with waves and sand. DVC HH has a beach house separate from the actual resort with beach access and swimming pool. That would be the closest to the DVC; there are other places off Hwy. 278 to access the beach before you get to DVC (only about 10 minutes sooner though) such as Burke's Beach.
