or across the street from DL?

I was trying to find some good deals on off site hotels near DL, and I am confused by the "one block" comments. Does that mean it really is withn walking distance (less then 10 min to the ticket booth )for a family with small children? I just wanted to get an idea of what range of prices were around before I start doing major research.

TIA

It depends. Best Western Park Place Inn is *the* closest place to the parks. You walk across the street on the pedestrian walkway and you're there. Now one block could mean something totally different. We discovered on our last trip that 2 blocks meant wayyyy too long to walk. But the transportation service is pretty good, at least in our experience.

Be aware that some hotels say they are a Block from the Disneyland resort but the block can be big and they are often counting from the very edge of the property so your walk to the gates could be 15 20 minutes. The map in the above post is good as is this one here.

What are the names of the places you have found good deals at?

Personally I wouldn't go any further than the Ho-Jo or the CandyCane Inn.

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the great maps!:D They really help show a lot.:D

daannzzz,

I just started looking at going to DL. It looks like it might be less expensive to do then WDW. What I found so far was nothing too great, just Howard Johnson's for about $85 a night.

What you said about the distance is exactly why I came here for help. I figured some places would try to fool newbies to DL with "one block" promises.

I was looking for someplace that had a decent pool, possibly with a slide. The pool slide was the dd & dd favorite part of our trip to WDW. Even with the places that are more then one block, it still seems that if you are on that strip it wouldn't take that long to get inside DL. But would probably be easier if we could do a small walk.

Thanks again:D

I don't use the pools much anymore on trips to Disneyland. I do look around the places I stay and it seems to me (probably for insurance reasons) most of the pools at the non-disney hotels have taken their slides out. Most of the the pools are also fairly non descript rectangles in a patio area with limited seating. The HoJo is actaully my favorite place to stay off site. They have two pools. One of them just was remodeled. It doesn't have a slide but it has a kiddue pool and a turtle that squirts water. The other pool there is situated amongs some pine trees and is nice and quiet...well most of the time.
The Park Inn... not to be confused with the Best Western Park Place in or the Park View Inn... has a small pool on the third floor. You can see the Matterhorn and monorail from therer with an awesome view of the fireworks. It is usually a bit more money than the HoJo. The Best Western Park Place Inn is as close as you can get for walking to the parks unless you stay at Disney's Grand Californian hotel. It is even closer than the other two Disney Hotels.
The Candy Cane Inn is very pretty withh a good free breakfast, nice rooms and a pretty though small pool area. The walk to the parks is 7 minutes or so.
In general stay away from the Park View Inn and the Anaheim Plaza.
You might be able to get a standard room at the Desrt Inn and Suites for a good price. The pool area is small, indoors and loud!!!
I do not know what travel sites you are using but I usually check a few for price comparisons.

www.travelocity.com
www.travelweb.com
www.travelhero.com
www.orbitz.com
Also, on the map that year2late posted many of the motels have links to their own websites.
Good luck and let us know if you have more questions or whast you find.

Another great site to check for hotels is www.roomsavers.com. They have lots of great deals.

The best pool in the area with a slide is the pool at the DL hotel.
It's all themed like Peter Pan.

Thanks for taking the time to type all of that info!!! I did notice some small pools,on some web-sites that surprised me for California. We might wind up at Howard Johnson after all b/c of the fountain/turtle thing. I started to take some serious notes to figure out the bottom line for this trip.

Party Teacher,

I did see some info about the Peter Pan slide, but I didn't want to even look because I wanted to spend waaaayyy less for this trip. I didn't want to fall in love with it and then not stay there. We stayed at the Poly in WDW and they loved that slide. They are little and aren't great swimmers (to be doing laps and such) so the slide was great for keeping them entertained. (they can swim well enough to get out of the pool by themselves after they came down the slide) Maybe we could do a waterpark one day...

I understand completely about saving money, but if you do decide that you want the DL Hotel pool, then I just wanted to make you aware that guests at the Paradise Pier Hotel have pool-hopping privileges at DLH. Paradise Pier is somewhat less expensive than DLH, and not too far to walk to the pool.princess:

Oops, I'd better amend my previous post---when we stayed at Paradise Pier in 2002, we were able to use the pool at the DLH. I can't seem to find anything current that says this is still true.
