How far is it....really?

For cost effectiveness (so I hope) I have decided to take the Amtrak to Disney in August. I have check to see how far the train station is from Saratoga Springs and its about a 17 minute drive. I plan to take a taxi from the train station to the Resort. Has anyone every done this before ? How much will this cost? Is this even a great idea?

I always wanted to take the train. We did it once and never will again. The kids were small and I thought being able to walk around and the fact that most of the ride is at night, they would sleep. Well we broke down twice, ran out of fuel once and since the driver can only be in that seat for a certain length of time - now we had to wait for them to find another driver. We should have gotten there around 9:30 am I believe having left Philly the evening before and never got there until 6pm. We lost a whole day and because there was a back up at the station had a heck of a time getting our luggage. My DH hates to fly but begged me to find a flight home. Please remember that when the train breaks down, there is no electric which mean no bathroom facilities. Doesn't mean people stop using them. It was like being in a huge dirty cat litter box with windows that don't open. I'm sure that trip was an exception and not the norm but I felt like I had to let you know the possibility is there. It really wasn't much cheaper than flying if I remember correctly. I am sending you bunches of pixie dust.

We took the Amtrak from San Antonio to Kissimmee once (that route no longer operates) It wasn't too bad. The food on the train was excellent, and overall an enjoyable trip. The kicker was that a bridge had needed repair, so we went by bus to New Orleans, then to Kissimmee by train (it was repaired for our trip home) We did run a few hours late both directions.

At that time, Amtrak was about 1/2 the cost of flying.

It was about $25 for the cab from Kissimmee to OKW.
