How Far in advance

How far in advance do you try to reserve accomodations?

I've been looking and getting ideas about what I think I would like to do, but how far out should I try to book something?

I'm looking at a trip next summer, and was thinking that I may try to make official plans and making reservations in january. Is that too early/too late/just right?

I will be looking at doing a house rental due to the number of people traveling.

Me, my 3 kids
My SIL, her mom, her DD

Possibly, my mom and my aunt as well.

6 months sound right to me.

remember though you also need to check to make sure the property is not in foreclosure.

there use to be an easy way - but can't find the website any longer.

I'm just so darn excited! I really wish it could be this year instead, but I need the time to save my money.
