How far in advance to book?

I am planning a vacation in September for myself, my parents, and my grandmother to celebrate my birthday. I've gotten several quotes, which seem to be ok. Should I wait until the new sale rates come out, and how far in advance should I book? Thanks!

Last two trips:

first, booked about 5 months out and had a hard time getting dates and resort we wanted

second, booked one year out to get exactly what we wanted then applied AAA discount and eventually sunshine getaway pkg when they became available.

next trip, Feb 2004, haven't booked yet but getting ready to any day!

Ditto on what my fellow Michigander vicb said, book now, you can always apply any discounts that come out later. We're also contemplating a Feb. 2004 trip and should be making reservations soon. ~~
