How far in advance should I plan to rent points & price per point to expect?

Just wanted to add, if you are planning to stay 5 - 6 nights and need to shift your dates by a day or two, that would mean weekend nights which are more points. The owner might not have more points to rent, even if there was availability. As others have said, it is pretty important to have your dates pinned down.

THANK YOU all for the helpful information! I will keep this all in mind. I was thinking late October or early Nov would be a "slow" time to go (we've only been in early June) but I guess I was wrong.

I see that in order to rent points, I will have to pin down an exact date, and with my husbands job it is probably too early for that.

My only reason for wanting to rent again, is that it seems it costs about the same as a Disney package all total except your getting to stay in a Deluxe. (studio)

This has been a very informative thread for me. I know the exact dates I'll be at WDW next November; Thanksgiving week. I know that's a very popular week, and I know it is extremely popular at VWL, which is where I want to stay I have a post at the trade/rent board. I'm trying to decide if I should try to rent any DVC resort right now or try for VWL over the next 4 months and then try to rent any DVC at the seven month window.

I see some folks trying to rent at $7.50 per point, but they're living in a dream world.

I've been reading lot's of threads over the last 10 months, and I know there are strong opinions about the amount a point should be rented for. But the few times I saw the 'want points for $7.50' posts I didn't even think that they were sincere (i.e. that they were dreaming). I thought they were either trying to make a joke, or trying to stir the pot. Any way, I understand that some people want more than $10.00 or $11.00 a point, and I understand about distressed points. The posts I do not like are the posts where the renter thinks they are doing the member a favor by renting the points from them. I am very glad that I have the chance to rent the points. I know I'll get a great room for a great price.
