How far in advance do you purchase your tickets

Do I have to purchase my tickets before I can set up my fast passes? We will not be staying at one of the resorts that get you early entry so I think I saw I can get them 30 days out. Also just curious since were only doing 2 parks 2 days would it be a better deal to do the after hours ticket vs day ticket in order to get to ride everything we want to, I'm concerned because I thought I heard that even 30 days out many of the top ride fast passes are already gone. Thanks We are going the first week of December and Ive never been this time before so I don't know what the crowds are like.

1. Yes.
2. Correct.
3. For Flights of Passage at DAK, that can be true.
Slinky Dog Dash (DHS) 7 Dwarfs Mine Train (MK) Frozen Ever After (Epcot)
would also be more challenging.
For most other attractions, you should be able to find FPs.
But, your short trip may make things much more difficult.

BTW, the opening of Star Wars Land at DHS (whenever that finally happens)
will throw a wrench in nearly all aspects of FP bookings and ride-wait times
at all parks.
