How far in advance can you book a Universal resort?

Does anyone know the earliest you can call? I just booked the Disney portion of our stay for next summer and am anxious to book the Universal part too. Thanks for any help

We're going Mar/Apr 2009 and were told to ring again in September!

i always book far in advance at rack rates.

then i go back and check frequently to see when the discount rates are up and available.

i call and modify my ressie then with the cheaper rate.

you are already locked in place when you book your room in advance.
all you are doing is lowering the room rate later.

Last week I called to ask when January 2010 (I know I am ridiculous) rates would be available. She said they just got 2009 rates and that you can only book them by calling. Now because I don't need 2009 I didn't ask if that meant all of 2009, but I am sure Feb would be available.

Should be no problem to get the discount rates when they come out as you could just cancel your booking and rebook (which they know so they just give you the rate)

She said they just got 2009 rates out and that I should call back at the same time next year. So I put in my planner (psyco about planning like you seem to be ) to call in late June. You know I am going to call before that though!!!!

Oh, you will definitely get a discount. Just keep checking because you don't want all the discounted rooms to book if you call them too close to your arrival. But if you are on these boards and planning, etc. I am sure you'll be checking for them regularly.

your room rate can be modified very easily.

call frequently when it is 6 months out and modify with one of the 3 rates i mentioned above.

even when you get the discount rate you want, still call on occasions.
prices have been known to drop with the ap rates more than once

Thanks for the advice, Mac. In December we had the club room for $279 a night, which was AAA. APH never beat it, sadly. I will be happy if I can get that price again.

I'm confused (no change there then!). We've just called Universal again to try and book Porto Fino for Mar 2009 and again we're told that's not possible yet - this time they said they didn't know when we'd be able to book but to try again in a couple of weeks whereas last time they said try September but there seem to be people on this thread who have booked further ahead
than we want! (unless I've misunderstood the posts which isn't beyond the realms of possibility! )
