How far in advance can I start asking about renting points?

Hi, we will be going to WDW in April 2004 and I'm looking to rent points for 4 nights at BCV ~ Mon/Tues/Wed/Thu nights. Probably April 26-29, 2004 inclusive. How far in advanced can I rent points? Thanks, Sandra

Sandra,

Your best bet to insure availability is to rent points 11 months in advance from a DVC member who owns at the Resort where you wish to stay. If the time and/or the accommodations that you are seeking are going to be in high demand, you should rent the points a few weeks earlier than that an have the member place the reservation on a daily basis until it is complete. I have points at all 4 DVC Resorts inside Disney World as well as Vero Beach. Let me know if you need help with your plans. docdds@aol.com

Although we have never cancelled or changed travel plans, I worry that I might have to in case of an emergency ~ would I lose money? Thanks! Sandra

Sandra,

You can buy insurance to protect against an unexpected cancelation of you plans including about $5.00 per point in point costs, airline fares and related costs. The information is included with the officail Disney confirmation you will receive after you have made your reservation.

Although you are obligated for the points after the reservation has been made and paid for, I usually allow an additional 6 months use from the date you are scheduled to check in if you must cancel for any reason. Keep in mind that is you cancel on the day you are scheduled to check in, the points are lost If you cancel within 30 days of your check in date, you will still have an additional 6 months to use the points but you will only be able to make your new reservation 60 days in advance. Of course, any substitute reservations are subject to availability.
