...do you book your airfare?

I have been having the hardest time finding airfare from NY getting way too expensinve...so for our Feb '09 trip we are taking the Amtrak...however, I have found a $60 airfare one way from New York to MCO for our July trip. I really want to book it, but its sooo far out.

What do you all think?

I am definetly going it will be my first time staying Concierge AKV...it's just of us...work won't get in the way...i presumably have no issues...i will go!!!

Believe it or not, we were going to go in June, and for the four of us, airfare from TX was going to be about $1200. We are staying in AKV, too!! But they didn't have a week of SV 1BR avail, so we booked in July. Amazingly, the cheapest fare in June with SWA couldn't compete with the July Delta airfare of $800!

(we wanted concierge, but it still wasn't available -- )

Have fun!! We would have had to pay out the wazzu if we went next month!!

Your location is Westchester County. My daughter is a college student in your area. We were going to fly out of the Westchester County Airport for spring break last year, and after our flight was cancelled three times several months before our trip, we decided to drive to Islip in order to take Southwest. It wasn't a bad drive, and we have found Southwest to be consistently cheaper and they have great sales, too. You might look into that if it is something you would consider doing.

Um. Hope it all goes well. Delta was the one that cancelled us out with no apologies. My extended family is in Georgia, and Delta is about the only game for flying to see them. I haven't had a good experience with Delta in the last 24 years. But I know folks who have. May you be the lucky ones!

I know you are right -- Delta has had consistantly horrible customer service with me, but so far I get there on time and no other problems. Honestly I would love to fly Southwest!!

I didn't mention this before, but after using my DH's built up airmiles (which we had NEVER done before), the ticket price went down to about $400 (for 4 people!!). We just had to thank God!! I started my PTR thread and didn't mention that, yet (which I should), but money has been really tight with us, lately, and that was truly a gift!

So, I would say, bottomline, to try to get about 6 months out, if possible -- I believe gas prices going up in the future are only going to make airfare worse.

I am going to look from Logan now for June. The only problem is I have a "free ticket" for Jetblue.

$60 each way is great! I'm going in June and SW PIT-MCO is about $338 roundtrip. I sent some of my Hilton and Hyatt points to my SW account to get a free ticket.

I typically book 60 to 90 days out but now the USAir is no longer flying non-stop PIT-MCO, I think that gave SW room to up their fares.

The cheapest AirTran from Logan was $225. It would be cheaper for us to fly Jetblue d/t having a free ticket. But thanks for the heads up.

I would suggest you check out Amtrak's on time record for the past months before you rely on them to get you that long distance..... We used to use them for a leisurely no hassle trip to family. Delays grew so long and so often we stopped - especially after other people's horror stories about a day's trip taking two days and other stories like that....

I book the flights as soon as they come out, they're cheaper than. The closer to the date, the fuller the plane gets, the higher the fare goes. I have no problem grabbing the flights asap...I say go for it

after you book, go to yapta.com and have them track your flights for you. They will e-mail you when the flight cost drops enough to get you a refund of the difference! (but jump on it quickly).

I wish Southwest would fly out of Logan! Jetblue is not as cheap as it used to be - I guess nothing is.

okay i booked it...i guess it would only go up from there...and i am disappointed to hear about Amatrak for our Presidents week vacation next month i am taking the train for the first time i hope we get there by the 15th as scheduled.

I just went to yapta to see what it showed for my daughter's jetblue flight this coming march, and it's showing lowest of $349 RT! I went to the jetblue site and it's $194 RT! I don't think yapta is accurate
