How far ahead do you pack?

Ok, I realize I'm obsessive, we leave in 11 days and I want to start packing, my friends are laughling at me. I suppose I could justify it by saying that we leave on a friday and I have a significant work commitment the four days before we leave..... :rotfl: :cool1: :upsidedow

Hi Abby,
Yup, I'm obsessive too. I start packing usually a week before we leave. I am an amputee and find that if I leave everything until the last minute the strain of being on my feet all day doing the last minute packing combined with trying to hoof it through the airports makes me so sore I can't walk for the first couple of days of my vacation and this would apply not only to amputees but anyone who has arthritus or a history of sore backs or knees.

Even if you don't have medical issues to worry about it is just so nice to spend the day or so before you leave, up-beat and full of excitement for the holiday rather than in a frenzy of last minute shopping, laundry, ironing etc.

My biggest problem with packing early is trying to get my daughter to stay away from the suitcase once it is packed, she has a habit of stealing her favorite stuff which has been packed for holidays back out of the suitcase to wear to school LOL

My wife will start about 4 days before and she will put just about everything in SPACEBAGS. The rollup kind. Cuts down on the volume of luggage to about 40%. Once the bags are closed, they are off limits.

On my bedroom floor, I start a week out, but I have most likely been collecting snacks etc in the pantry up to a month ahead!

My friends and family like to make fun of me.
We are going in July and I will start packing the beginning of June.

I do it for every trip (there are 4 of us) and we have never forgotten anything!

So I gave into temptation, but made myself clean all the x-mas stuff of the bed in our guest room (it lives in that closet) and told myself once that was done I could get out the suitcases and put some stuff on the bed. Like swimsuits that we won't need for the next 11 days. We are in Oregon and it has rained 23 of the last 22 days, no wonder I can't wait to pack..... :rotfl:

We're going to WDW in 12 days, and I've set aside clothes since I did laundry from our December 1-5th trip!! We'll start organizing our stuff for real next week though...clothes and pins take some major planning for Disney in January since you never know how the weather might be!

Let's see, we leave around 5 AM on Feb. 4, so we should be finished packing around 12:30 AM on the 4th.
And since we're driving... :crazy2:

We're leaving at about 5:00 am on Sunday, January 22. I am hoping to have bags completely packed for my two dd's no later than Wednesday or Thursday. My plan is to have the minivan loaded up with every single thing that we're going to take down to DL by early afternoon the day before we leave. Knowing me, I will be running back and forth to the driveway late into the evening to add extra items as they come to mind :flower:

I have already got my suitcase out of the attic and have put some things in when I think of them so that I don't forget, we leave on 5th April. By a week before everything except for the finishing touches will be packed but I generally pack and unpack and pack again several times, I like the space bags idea. that may be a good idea for the return journey so I fit lots of scrapbooking stash in my bags!

I leave April 5 also and already started to pack. Ordering guide books new clothes make up. Have to get kids all new clothes

Nice to know I'm not the only obsessive disney planner out there.

We are leaving Feb 28. The week before x-mas we purchased a new suitcase for my daughter. Then I got mine out of the laundry room and into mine. Last week I got the box of summer clothes out and went through that. Packed our shorts and tanks. This weekend I stuck our bathing suits in. And today I found our sandles. Its so hard not to start, I just cant wait! Oh, I forgot the sunscreen! Gotta go!
