Just my .02 worth...Here is what happened to me in February. Even though I didn't have a car, our shuttle told us it would give us a 1/2 grocery stop. Unfortunately, the driver was new, and didn't know that there is a store open 24-hours (our flight got in after midnight, and all but Goodings was closed.) Anyway, I ended up having to get stuff at the Trading Post. IF you have a car, it would definitely be worth a trip to a nearby grocery store. Or, if you don't have a car and your flight gets in at a decent hour, you can still get a grocery stop. Considering my predicament, it ended up being okay. Living in Alaska, I am used to a bit higher grocery prices, so they didn't shock me. I thought eggs (about $1.39 a dozen) and bread ($2.39 per loaf) was acceptable. I brought all our unperishables in a suitcase. I did notice that they had sliced luncheon meat and sliced cheese at the Trading Post. One plus to buying just what you need each day is that you won't throw food out if your plans change and you don't eat what you thought you would. Anyway, I agree that if it works out, by all means make a grocery stop. BUT...if anyone finds themselves like I did stuck with no alternative...it wasn't too bad, either! Happy camping!
