How expensive are groceries at resort?

We're renting out a studio at BCV. We want a few groceries but not much. We will probably eat a couple of breakfasts and maybe a sandwich or two in the room. We would probably get something like this...

Cereal
Milk
Juice
Bread
Ham & Cheese
Mayo
Soda
Water
Chips

And really that's about it. Is it worth the savings in grocery cost to use a delivery service (and pay the service fee), or rent a car or use a town car service vs using DME and just paying the resort prices?

we were just at BWV and spent over $30 on the following items:

1 small box of cereal
1 package (of 6 I think) of frozen small pizzas
1 box of donuts (Entemanns)
1 package of English muffins
1 package of margarine
1 1/2 gallon of milk

I was surprised by the amount we spent for how little we unpacked in our room.

Later that day we made a Publix run and spent around $60 on a TON of groceries - much better deal.

I don't think they're any different from what I pay at home. But, others may live in more affordable parts of the country...

We don't buy much either and we always buy at the resort. I usually buy near the end of our day when it is more convenient for us vs. delaying our arrival due to a grocery stop.

I think you'll find lots of people doing both and feeling strongly about their choices.

Its much cheaper to run to Wal-Mart or Publix and pick up a few things that you will need.

Even the Hess stores on site have decent prices on sodas, milk and juice if you don't want to take the time to run to publix. Last August, 12 packs of Coke products were $2.99 and juice was 1/2 of the resort price.

I just came back and I bought minimal stuff at the resort...just perishables like milk, 1/2 &1/2, cheese, bread, etc. I didn't hink it was worth a delivery since we didn't have a car and we weren't really cooking. I stuffed a ton of stuff in my luggage: variety pack cereal, instant oatmeal, filter packs of coffee, teabags, cocoa, lemonade mix, microwave popcorn, easy mac, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, etc...if you lose the packaging and just put the stuff in zip locks it doesn't take up that much room and when you use it up you have room for souvenirs!!!

I pack stuff like coffee (because it's the kind we like) and Weight Watchers english muffins (because they don't seem to be available down there) so just the non-perishable stuff we can't get there.

I have come to realize that although a bit pricey for some of the groceries on site. It really isn't that bad.

My eyebrows went up when I bought butter at the store at BCV and I said to the CM, "it must be VERY good butter for that price!" Then I said, "I suppose I could have spent $160 on a rental car to get a cheaper stick of butter." She then said, you could try a taxi, that might make the butter cheaper."

We both laughed. I have come to realize that while I probably pay more for what we need, it is ultimately still far cheaper than a car that we hardly use.

We eat very small breakfasts at our resort and all other meals, snacks & bottled water is eaten at parks or resort pool, etc. so this year we have decided to simplify!

We will get perishables at SSR or down the road at Publix on our first day and replenish if we need to from SSR or Hess. We do have a rental car, but it's still not worth it to us to fight traffic and waste gas to save a few dollars on groceries. We have a small family and can do this, but for us, we would much rather be at the pool or at the parks. In the grand scheme of things, saving a few dollars (even if it was $20.00) over the course of 2 weeks isn't a big deal at all, but our precious vacation time is.

After this trip, I totally agree! We have pretty much come to the same conclusion for our future trips. The prices were not really that bad and for the time we saved picking up a loaf of bread at the resort shop vs. going to the grocery store, we rather pay the $2.99 for the loaf of bread.

I really had no desire to go to the grocery store at all, too much fun stuff to do.

Having the DDE helped too. We ate at AP and Turf Club alot.

If we drive, we will take items with us and if we run out we will replenish from the resort store.

I agree that Hess is very reasonable for grocery items. On our way out, we picked up 2 12pks of soda for $5.50. They have Krispy Kreme doughnuts for $5.99 dz also.

If you do not have a car, and just need a tote bag full of items, I would recommend Hess or the resort store. Beer is much more reasonable at Hess.

Individual pieces of fruit at the resorts was .99cent.

Yes_ iam also wondering that. I know I have seen a Hess(I think) near BWV right before you turn in. Is there one closer to SSR? We do not have a car, so can I walk to it?
