How essential is it to take restaurant confirmation numbers?

I think it certainly couldn't hurt to have. I haven't experienced the Chef's Counter (yet! Next month!) but we did the prepaid Electrical Parade package and they lost our reservation. My husband luckily had it or we would have needed to fight for the money back.

I've been phoning via the GCH, but thanks for the direct line- it saved me a fair amount of time on hold! I've left two messages on different days and I haven't heard back yet, I'll leave it a day or so and try again. I'm feeling a lot more reassured but I'd still rather not leave anything to chance so I'll keep trying to get it anyway. Thanks for the advice :)

And thank you, we most definitely will!!
Another option is to call the Dine Line during hours when NR is open and have the DL CM call for you while you hold. We've had to do that once or twice. A bit roundabout, but works in a pinch.

Sorry to dredge this post up again but I've still had no luck contacting the Napa Rose through any of the numbers. I have left several messages over the past few weeks on their answer machine with my contact information, I've even tried offering multiple numbers in case there was a problem with one of them, but no one has gotten back to me. Then yesterday when I tried again, instead of the answer machine it was picked up...and then immediately hung up. 4 times. The fourth time I had gone via the switch board and the operator put me through, each time I heard background noise on the other end before they hung up on me, so I know it didn't just drop out.

I'm quite upset about this, I just want to confirm our meal and ask about ordering a birthday cake, and this is making me feel as though my custom is unwanted. The operator was unable to offer me any solution other than to try again later, but I am already amassing quite an international phone bill just trying to get through to them and I'm fed up of it. I hate to be that person but how would be the best way to make a complaint about this, or would that just achieve nothing other than giving me some catharsis? Thanks for all the advice everyone has already given, it is much appreciated.

I've never taken it in my life and also have never encountered a problem. Even at WDW where they "lost" our Prime Time Cafe reservation during dinner rush, they seated us within 15 minutes. They work it out. Now with MDE and online confirmations, you've got it with you anyway.

Since it was booked over the phone I don't have any sort of conformation from them at all, and to be honest the more this is going on, the more I worry there will be a problem with my reservation.

I know I'm probably over thinking it XD Thanks for the response!

I just booked the Chef's Counter for the end of May. They did not provide me with a confirmation number. Because this is a special reservation (only made over the phone) I don't think they provide you with a confirmation number, but I could be wrong. I was forewarned not to expect and email confirmation either. I'm so excited for this reservation - it is something I have always wanted to do. I'm going solo this trip, so I am doing all the things I want to do!! :)

To order a custom birthday cake, I think that is done through the DINE Line, not through NR. So, at least, for that you shouldn't have to go through the restaurant.

I did Chef’s Counter on a solo birthday trip and they lost my reservation. When I arrived they seated me in the lounge while they worked it out then I was seated shortly and had a glass of wine on them as an apology. It all worked out in the end.

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever end up making that reservation, @Sagacious_Sundry ?
I tried calling yesterday and left them a voicemail but I don't know if they'll answer it?

The only time where it came in handy was December 27,2017. Park was at capacity, and the power had gone out earlier and they were not admiting anyone unless you had a reservation. They had this huge binder full of reservations and a massive line. We walked up to a random CM and I happened to have my print out of my BB fantasmic reservation and showed it to him and he escorted us in.

I've dined at the Chef's Counter at Napa Rose a half-dozen times and never once have I been given a confirmation number. They usually just take my name, phone number and that's it. I've always received a phone call around two days out to confirm I would be dining with them.

Most recently, I left a voicemail to make a reservation on a Tuesday and they called me back to confirm the reservation on the following Saturday at 4 p.m. WT - so they're definitely taking a while to respond to messages and obviously have an order in which they are doing so. It's the longest I had to wait to make a reservation, but it all worked out and is no stressor to me. :confused3
