What does DIS stand for?

I don't really think it has any other meaning than being a shortened version of Disney.

I was wondering the same thing for months. Check out the Tech Board. There's a spot with 'Frequently Asked Questions' that I believe the info. is under. Also, I printed a bunch of sheets there with thread abbreviations & it does say 'Disney Information Station', as prev. posted.

The original name when the boards first appeared was Disney Information Station. That was when Pete was still in New Jersey, I believe in 1998. After the boards went thru some visual changes (maybe 2000) the name became DIS. Hope this helps.

I think Pete started it in 1997. Because I remember using the boards faithfully to plan our first trip in 1997 and honeymoon in 1998. Gee, it's scary to think I've been using these boards that long! I don't post much but I read them everyday just about!!

The site has gone through several "revisions" over the years. DIS does stand for Disney Information Station, but no one ever uses that name any more. Everyone referred to it as the DIS, so we just followed along

And KarenTX is correct, the site 'officially' launched on June 1, 1997. The boards followed about 3 months later. I was bored one Saturday morning and thought adding a discussion board to the site would be fun (I'm not kidding). The first personal attack happened within two days of starting the boards.

For some unknown reason, this very simple question has sent me on a trip down memory lane...but I won't bore everyone with my 'virtual home movies'
