I'm curious what others experience has been getting a cab with a power wc. I'ld like to go off-site for a day, and a cab would be the easiest thing. How is this arranged in Orlando? Are there special companies who do this kind of transportation or is it like overhere; most of the companies do both and you'll just have to tell when calling you'll be needing a van suitable for a power wc? Also experience with the costs are off course welcome.

If you are staying at a hotel that offers free transportation to non disabled guests they must also provide you with free transportation. You will need to let them know in advance that you need accessible transportation and they may tell you they don't provide it but if you remind them that under the ADA they HAVE TO you will get the transportation you need.

Thanks for the info, but as I'm wanting to go off-site and you'll (logically) have to pay for that, I doubt Disney will be getting me free transportation. ;) I know I can arrange anything I could need through the CM, and I will be asking their help. I was just curious how easy it is getting a cab when using a power wc, as my experience is that it can be so different per country. In one country it can be no problem, in the other you'll have to order at least one hour upto a day in front, in the third country it's almost inpossible to get a cab. Also my experience is that the costs can vary wildly. While in one country you wouldn't find a difference between a normall cab and adapted one (even when it's more expensive for the company), in the other you will have to pay a fair amount more and in the third they think your crazy and they can clear you out financially.

I have used an accessible cab from Saratoga Srings to the Prime Outlets. The cab was easy to get. All I did was ask the CM at the check-in counter to call me an accessible cab. They did it was about 20 minutes before they came. You can also arrange the night before. Just have them call and tell the cab what time to be there. I also did this and they were there at the proper time.

I think the driver kinda screwed me in the cab fair. As I said I went from Saratoga Springs to the Prime Outlets. He took a long way around, in my opinion he should have just went by DTD and the DTD hotels. THe fair was $25. I told him he took the long way around and then he said just give me $15. I gave him a $20 and told him what time to pick us up. He was about 15 minutes late picking us up, but no big deal.

I hope this helps, but the cabs are easy to get. I have even gotten them from resort to resort. From Pop Century to AKL it is about $12, and I think from BCV to Pop Century it was about $9

OK, so they're easy to get. :)

The screwing thing sounds like any cabby around the world. I must say, they prices don't sound bad. I'm used to prices of about $5,- per mile and an extra startingrate of about $20,-.

I'm also planning on having a good shopping-shot, but to Florida Mall. Especially with the dollar being so nice to our euro, I'ld be a fool not to do so.
