How easy is it to pop a stitch? (the medical kind)

I had hand surgery on wed. Minor surgery, only took 15 min, on my palm at the base of 2 of my fingers (had a pyogenic granuloma removed for those daring enough to google - it's gross!).

Pain has dissipated by today, but a bit earlier it started tingling. Now, I hadn't really been using my hand before today.

So how easy is it to pop a stitch? Or have I just been using it too much today?

It might be the nerves coming back after the surgery. When I had carpal tunnel surgery on my wrist, I had some tingling sensation associated with the nerves.

I popped one but it was in the small of my back (mole removal). It was in-office surgery and then I went home and just bent over to make a bed and it popped open. I just had to keep it from bleeding and it scarred since it popped, but it was in a really bad spot. So it isn't too hard to pop them.

I agree with the PP who said it is probably just the nerves waking up. My pinky and ring finger tingled for about 8 months after my car accident because my ulnar nerve was damaged.

Be careful with your stitches for another week or so. My DS had surgery to remove a mole from the side of his knee when he was 7. The surgeon didn't want to do it, but the mole was suspicious so he didn't want to wait. Everything was beautiful until DS and DBIL started wrestling about 2 weeks after the surgery. One of the subceutaneous (sp?) stitches popped and he's got a large scar... from such a small mole.

I looked up the pyogenic granuloma. Yeah, I'd have had it removed, too. Those suckers are ugly. I'm sure your hand is much prettier now. ;)

Just be thankful you only had to see PICTURES! :scared1:

I've never popped stitches but evidently because I am a diabetic I just don't heal well. The tingling could just be the nerves coming back. I had it after carpal tunnel surgery in both hands. And I just had cubital tunnel surgery in my right arm and had tingling in the hand after that too from the ulnar nerve being irritated. But the incision split open a week after the stitches were removed. An incision from my carpal tunnel surgery split open a few days after the stitches were removed so it seems to be something I am prone to. Extremely painful and you end up with a much worse scar since you heal from the inside out. When I had the carpal tunnel I used my hands quite a bit with the stitches in and never had a problem with them popping out. And I used my arm a fair amount after the stitches for the cubital tunnel and didn't have a problem with the stitches.
