My mom might need to use a scooter the next time we are down (knee problems are making it hard for her to walk for long periods of time).

My question is how easy are they to use. We have never used one before and I don't want her to run anyone down or get hurt.

THey are not HARD to use but it does take getting used to. You need to get your mom to use them at the grocery store and Walmart it is the best way to get used to using them, be sure to find a bit of the store not too busy where she can practice backing up, turning around etc. Walmart is good for trying to manuver in tight places.
Be aware that the scooters in the parks are bigger than those that you can rent off site.

But also the ones in the grocery stores, Wal-Marts, etc., are even larger than the ones that Disney rents out.

Not where I am they are three wheel like Rascals. Much like the ones they rent out off site.
Even our Walmarts are smaller than the Park ones.
Guess it must vary around the country. It is still the best way to learn to use one.

Hi. I have very limited mobility and do ok with a cane to use or cart to hold on for shopping but that is the most exercise I can handle. My first few days at WDW parks were spent with me walking inside the gates and sitting on benches while my family had fun. Why? I physically could not walk the parks and I was to embarrassed to rent a scooter. I also had never used one. Finally, after my hubby and son begged me to either let them push me in a wheelchair (not a chance... I did not want to ruin their first WDW trip even though they offered), I rented a scooter. WDW scooters were a blessing! :goodvibes They are extremely easy to use. :thumbsup2 The daily cost is $40.00 with a $5.00 refund. There is a basket on front to hold bags or water. Renting the EVC's at WDW allowed me to explore, see all of the parks, enter some rides I could physically do, and most of all... be with my beloved family! :flower3: Tell your mom to rent and have fun!

This is my first time posting in on this board, but not my first time in WDW (20 x at least), but this time I am renting a Walker Mobility scooter, for my SIL who has had a heart attack and triple bypass and is mostly recovered but stilll has a problem walking long distances..she is 42 yrs old. If I did not start reading this discussion I would not even have planned the trip...Thanks to you all so much!....
Now you will see me in the other forums....lol:surfweb:

They are extremely easy to use - my 70 year old MIL and 65 year old mom have both rented them at Disney and absolutely love them! :thumbsup2 Go for it and have an awesome time! :cool1:

thanks for the feedback. I think we will give it a try at least in Epcot
