How early do you start decorating for Christmas?

We put up our 4-foot artificial tree the day after Thanksgiving. We have a kitty now, so I don't know if the tree will survive but we're hoping for the best.

End of November/start of December for me. I don't like doing it too early but equally it takes me a very long time to put all my decorations, lights etc up everywhere so I like to get a decent amount of time out of them before taking them down again.

Lately, we’ve been doing them sometime the week of Thanksgiving, as we usually have more time then versus the weekend after Thanksgiving. I try to do lights the weekend after Thanksgiving, weather permitting.

It is interesting reading different traditions. I know my mom said as a kid Santa brought the tree, the gifts, and all the decorations. So nothing up, they went to bed Christmas Eve, and Christmas morning everything was there. Not sure why my Grandparents did things that way.

We normally decorate the weekend after thanksgiving then I begin baking. Last year we didn’t decorate due to remodeling. This year we will be decorating early because the house is so different I may need new things (like a second tree) and things sell out so early.

tree will go up the day after Thanksgiving and decorating the house will take a couple of days. my very limited outdoor decor (my house is not easily visable to passer-by's) the same weekend. everything comes down after new year's day with the exception of the electric timer run candles I put in the living room. they all get put out, filled with new batteries and turned on the day after thanksgiving-they stay put until their batteries run out in early spring (they are not holiday themed).

well..................................technically I do have one decoration up year round:rolleyes1-

our buddy bumble stands in the corner of the living room but monthly trades off his santa hat for a myriad of others (among my favorites are his devo energy dome, dr who fez, Jr firefighter Helmet and his current choice-his batman cowl). he lights up our life:love:
