how early can you check in

I've read that check in is at 1pm but if u have a pup and staying in preferred and we arrive in morning around 9am or so can we set up or do we have to wait til 1pm

It depends on if they have a campsite ready for you. If there is a site open and ready, they'll let you have your site. If the site isn't ready, you can still check in and they will direct you to the overflow parking lot. They'll give you a number to call to check on the status of your campsite. As soon as it's ready, you can go and set up. We've only had a problem with our site not being ready once, when we arrived at around 10:00 in the morning. We usually get in around 11:30 to 12:00 and are given our campsite right away.

Hey, even if you can't set up camp immediately, you're at WDW. Even better, you're in Fort Wilderness! I really didn't mind that much that trip when we had to wait an hour or so for our campsite. We just hopped on a bus and headed back to the rockers on the porch at Trail's End....one of our favorite places to be. We did a little shopping at the trading post and then walked around the loop we had requested. seeing if we could possibly pick out which site they would assign to us. By the time we got back to the parking lot, our site was ready for us.
