Once we get back to Port Canaveral, how early can we get off the boat? Can we request an early time? We are driving and want to get going as early as possible.

If you want early walk off, you need to carry your own bags off the ship. Depending on when you clear customs, you can usually start disembarking from 7:30am

And when they say carry them off yourself that is what they mean. You have to be able to manage them on your own all the way to your car.

This is from the Magic in Miami, but Port Canaveral will be similar.

We were on the Wonder in May and walked off with our luggage in San Diego around 7:30 am. It was easy to do and we would do it again that way.

We've done express walk-off in Port Canaveral several times and the latest we've been in our car was 7:30am.

Express walk off with our bags is our nightmare. lol. But, ....

Did I just hear express walk off at 7:00 - 7:30am has no porters in PC. ? ? ?

That is new info to me, yet makes sense. Never recall hearing that before.

Thanks for sharing.

That would be tough with 2 kids and the kitchen sink, w/o porters. lol. Especially if parked in the garage on deck 3.

Ironically it would be more difficult if parked in the PC garage, if no porters were available.

As apposed to ;

If car service, van, dcl, whatever; was to pick up ground level.
Haul baggage thru terminal basement to curb, ground level, load to whichever transpo needed, and you are off, even with the sink.

If park in garage and no porters the sink may be more challenging.
Pax are forced downstairs, thru CBP, with the sink, but w/o porters, it could be challenging reaching your garage located vehicle comfortably with your kids and sink at 7:30 am. moving up grade.

Trust me, after 8:30 or so, porters will carry the sink, and kids, to even the outer lots, for a tip. So no worries for those pax that happen to leave the vessel at normal times.
Porters are more than happy to carry sinks, kids, art, and whatnot, at that time. IME they are awesome. And we have had a sink or two once. :sad2:

Just a new perspective I never gave much consideration to prior.
Folks leaving prior to porters presence.

We are often last to leave so this is news to us.

Thanks for sharing and educating us.

If you can confidently carry all your kids, bags, cases and coats, as previously stated, as soon as you clear customs they will make an announcement for express walk off and you just grab your stuff and go. You don't have to leave your luggage outside your state took the night before so have access to all your stuff right before you leave. We did it in Vancouver after our Alaska cruise last year and it was pretty easy, we had another transfer we needed to get to early doors. If we had no onward plans, I would Definately just go with the flow and make the most of your last morning on board

Just a sight clarification...

If you are doing self-disembark, you do not leave your luggage outside your stateroom AT ALL - no option of doing so. ("You don't have to" to me can be read with the "but if you want to you can" caveat on there.)

By doing self-disembark you are agreeing to handle all of your stuff yourself from ship to car/transportation.

Wait, did someone say the porters will carry your KIDS? That is awesome. Extra tip for those guys.

I have always found the porters to be amazingly accommodating. We travel with so much (we are international visitors that stay for 4 + weeks) Last trip, one of the porters even let me use their phone as mine wasn't working and I needed to contact our car service. They are wonderful.

We didnt do express walkoff but we got off the Dream around 7:30 on Sun and there were porters waiting at the bottom of the escalators by customs.. they offered to help us with the bags before we were even off the escalators. We got out bags, went through customs and in our car by 7:39!

Good info - but with my group it will probably be how LATE can we get off the ship? Safe travels especially if you have a long road trip afterwards.

Don't know if you actually asking that question, but - you must be out of your stateroom by 8:00 and off the ship by 9:00. Anyone dawdling after 9:00 will be gently herded toward the doors and off no later than 9:30.

Remember, they need SOME time to turn the ship over for the new cruisers (who want to get on as early as possible).

Actually the grownups will be reluctant but ready. Not sure the 5 year old and the 21 month old will ever be ready to get off. And we always try to be considerate of the crew. Getting all the cabins cleaned and ready for new guests has to be a challenge.
