Vacations aren’t an investment they are an expense. The author basically argues that Disney emotionally manipulates everyone, and reinforces that this is a terrible investment. I would argue most vacations are financially a terrible investment, but that's not the point.
Many people seem to use the word "investment" in a metaphorical sense, along the lines of "investment in leisure time." It's meant to express one's long term commitment to improving family relations, taking a break for mental health purposes, etc. I don't think many people are intentionally trying to equate their timeshare to a mutual fund.Vacations aren’t an investment they are an expense.
Feels like many believe anything over 5k is an “investment “.
Nope, just a big expense.
Marketing at its finestThe author basically argues that Disney emotionally manipulates everyone, and reinforces that this is a terrible investment.
Wait, in the one in a billion chance this is true.I scanned the comments - apparently the podcasters said that DVC owners can’t get rid of their contracts and are giving them away for free when they can’t use their points. So - I’m not wasting time or brain space on this podcast. That’s patently false.

Why interject fact into some one you tube fame….If you track the history of the resale deeds on the Orange County site, you see that the vast majority of sellers sold their contracts for more than they paid for them.
Interesting hypothetical, but of course, you would never see the deeds as they would certainly be taken in ROFR. The ROFR lady may be sleeping, but she's not dead.Wait, in the one in a billion chance this is true.
I would like to offer my DVC Points disposal services to anyone that does not want their points and feels they need to give them away….
I have deeds, I will pay the recording fees.
All these “deprate” DVC owners need to is message me and I’ll take care of the rest….
Dipping with sarcasm ….

True.Disney emotionally manipulates everyone
True.this is a terrible investment
True.Disney is too expensive in general
This is not completely wrong. There are a lot of possible vacations one can take. Many of them are much less expensive. Most of them are more relaxing. All of them can serve as the setting in which great memories are made. This isn't always a popular opinion on DIS, where the prevailing sentiment is often Only Disney, All The Time.one of the people on this podcast was actually recommending people to do a Six Flags vacation over Disney and/or spending money on DVC
That doesn't mean DVC is a bad idea. But, as a former Hyatt salesman put it: "It's a TOY. You are buying a TOY. Treat it like a TOY." If that's the toy you want, and you can afford it, why not?
