I went to the public high school in the city next to my town that my town has a tuition agreement with, since we have no high school. Bussing is provided, but despite many bus company switches through the years, bussing is terrible. It's a 20 minute drive in good conditions, either by interstate or crazy back roads. Not walkable.
I took the bus every day freshman year, home and to school. Mornings were awful. The bus came between 6 and 6:40-it changed every day, so I was outside before six. School started at 7:45 and sometimes I'd be there at quarter of 7, other times it was almost 7:30. The afternoons involved 3 different busses and swapping at different points to get home. Total nightmare.
Sophomore year I took the bus most days. Dad drove me when I had newspaper and student council meetings, and mom picked me up when I had to stay late. I started driving myself the last 2 weeks of school. I got my license that December, but had to wait until April to drive by myself, and it was May before we got a "third" car. The bus wasn't as bad that year, timing wise. It regularly picked me up at 6:30.
Junior year I drove myself to school and back until October 23 or 24. That day I totaled my car pulling out of the parking lot. From then until the middle of May, my dad or a friend drove me to school, and mom picked me up. Talk about humiliating.
Senior year I drove myself and my sister to school, and my sister took the bus home, since I got out a class period early, and left when I got out.
