How does WDTC UK handle last minute cancellations?

Wondering if anybody has the unfortunate experience of dealing with last minute cancellations. This is the first year we're booked through WDTC UK, normally go through the US branch. We've got 3 weeks booked for sept/oct.

At the moment my health is acting up in such a way, for the first time I realise cancellation might become neccessairy.:headache: Still counting on going ;) but if I'm honest it is uncertain. If we do go, we're keeping open the option of going back earlier if my body tells me it's been enough allready.

I'm wondering how WDTC UK would deal with these situations? I know WDTC USA is very customer orientated and would let you use whatever is paid towards a new reservation. But what about WDTC UK? And what if we do find we have to go home earlier, what would be done with the left over days of the villa? (tickets are a non-subject at this point IMHO, by then some days will have been used and as we all know those first few days of tickets the biggest value anyway)

I've got my ducks on a row as far as the flight is concearned. Thank heavens, erhm, the airline for me having a direct contact down there. And of course we've got travelinsurance. That is the biggest piece of mind of course, financially. But as part of those ducks in a row, I'm curious as to how WDTC UK handles these situations.

Period before departure date that letter is received Cancellation Charges as a % of total Booking price
More than 56 days £50 per person
56-29 days 30%
28-15 days 40%
14-1 days 50%
Day of departure or later 100%

Chart above shows what you will be charged for cancellation taken from T&C's of your booking contract

But if its a health issue you would claim on your travel insurance to cover any loses.

Wayne, thanks. :thumbsup2 I know all about the T&C's. However, WDTC USA has been known to have these in place but basically not applying them if the reason for cancellation are these type of things and allowing the total amount paid to be used towards a new booking. (talking about packages of course).

Know all about our travel insurance's role, have the reputation of having needed them in the past more times than I'ld -and probably the insurer alike, the don't make any profit on me it seems :lmao:-like. Just curious about how WDTC UK handles it in reality. Do they stick to the T&C or do they sometimes create some leeway like the US branch does?

Can't answer your question, but is it not possible to transfer the booking to a later date for an amendment charge?

They stick to the Ts&Cs. The cancellation terms for booking made with the US are more generous.

Sorry I read your post as a cancellation, not an alteration.

Can only go with the T&C's, they stick to them strictly, down to charging a £10 surcharge for booking tickets within 10 days of travelling (can't believe that one myself)
#8 suggests they require 14 days notice prior to travel for changes.
I can't imagine they would give you anything for unused days once the trip has started.
Would be intertested in reading any posts that have got them to deviate from T&C's.

Just want to add that I really hope you are feeling better and go on to enjoy your full trip without the need to cancel or cut short.

My Grandparents had to cancel their trip for this August but they only lost their deposit as it was quite a way out.

However they were advised that they could change to a different date for an amendment fee of
£50 plus any additional cost of the hotel. Im pretty sure the charge was per booking and not per person.

I am pretty sure the charge is per person as per T&Cs, which I don't have to hand at the moment.

The only thing I don't recall is whether there are further fees involved in changes within the red zone (so close to departure).

The cancellation charge is per person, the amendment charge is per amendment - e.g changing dates on a booking.

As per the T&C''s for Amendments -

"In these circumstances, an administrative fee of £50 for each amendment will be charged."

:thumbsup2 Couldn't remember.

Thanks for all of the replies!

Totally agree, the amendment fee is very reasonable until even late in the game.

Wayne; no need to be sorry! I was wondering about both. Nobody can predict the future of course but if the sept/oct trip couldn't proceed, depending on how long it takes to recoup from that it might be or won't be possible to reschedule. We've already got a 2011 trip to Australia planned :woohoo: and 2 trips too close to eachother doesn't agree with my regular health anyway.

As said, hopefully it's not needed at all to have these ducks on a row, but I'ld rather go and have the info and not need it than the other way around. :goodvibes

we have changed a reservation without being charged before but this year they want to charge us and we have to pay a new deposit and then they refund the old one minus the charge to move the booking for our hotel only booking

i think it depends on who you get and how friendly they want to be
