Just curious...I've heard some say the water is terrible.but I was thinking to save $ to just bring water bottles to refill in the parks as we go along...is the water cool enough? Does it really taste that bad? If so, has anyone ever used one of those water bottles with the filters in them and if so do they work to make it taste better? Guess this seems trivial, however..guess I just am sooo excited about my trip that I just have to post SOMETHING!!!:p

I don't mind the water fountains at WDW. It doesn't taste like Evian, but it serves its purpose - but maybe it's just because I am used to central Florida water. It helps if you let it flow for a few secs before you start drinking it though ;)

well, I only have one word for it......ICK!

We don't have public water where we live.....we have good old-fashioned UNTREATED well water, and it is FABULOUS. Just like the fancy bottled water. So to me, any water that is treated has a nasty taste to it. We always go with bottled at WDW.

I do have city water where I live, but I still hate the water at WDW. yuck. If I am really thirsty, I will drink it, but not if I have to. It is cool enough, but it is really bad tasting. HArd to describe.

I haven't tried the filtered refillable water bottles, but would be interested in any one's comments on those as well.

We usually just buy bottled water.

I would say it taste like water, not anything special. There is no after taste or odd smells around the fountains that I've found.

If you are planning to bring a water bottle you should buy one of the Brita filtered water bottles. They work very good at filtering the water. It's not to big to carry either.

I'm another one with wonderful well water so any other water is ICK!!
DH didn't used to mind WDW water, but last time he thought it was pretty bad too.

We used the Brita water bottle. Worked great!!
We had another empty water bottle.....since DH didn't want a Brita ;) , but he changed his mind, so I used my Brita to refill his bottle too.

Yes, the Brita filtered water bottles work great. We always take them and are glad to have them. I usually start out with them filled with ice from our room and then just refill at drinking fountains. I think I have read on these boards that you can ask to have them filled with ice water at any fast food place. Anybody out there know for sure?

Like some others on here, we have delicious well water, so therefore the water in WDW tastes and smells sickening to our family. I know it sounds crazy, but it stinks so bad to me that I dread taking a shower. But the Brita filtered water bottles are a real lifesaver. We always fill them up at the fountains and have no problem drinking the filtered water.

If you have just waiting in line for 45 minutes and been walking all day - the water is great. Seriously its OK.

the water is "drinkable" throughout WDW in all the parks EXCEPT FOR Magic Kingdom...That is the stinkiest, smelliest stuff ever..I think they must pump it right out of Bay lake.
Even fountain drinks carry that distinctive sulfur smell.
Thats' certainly a contributing reason to the selling of so much bottled water at WDW.
We buy at the grocery store and freeze half a bottle the night before and fill up the rest in the am and take to the parks!

I think the water smells and tastes "strange". I too used the Brita water bottle last summer and it worked great. I got an insulated holder with a shoulder strap.

while it doesn't taste as good as the spring water that i have delivered to my home, it really isn't all that bad...i find it to be refreshing when hot and in need of a drink...i have never noticed the smell that others are referring to...
if you are that concerned, by the filtered bottle to be on the safe side and have a good time....drinking water should be the last thing that you are concerned about while at the park...
have fun!!!!

My family won't drink the water "straight" anywhere in Orlando. We use the Brita water bottles and they work amazingly well. I even run water through my Brita water bottle to make tea in the morning. Otherwise I don't think I'd be able to drink it. (Label each water bottle with the drinkers name to avoid early morning confusion!)

Not only does it taste bad, but in hot and humid months when you really need a nice cool drink, I'd guess the water comes out of the fawcetts at a warm 75 degrees or so.

Another reason to purchase that cold and tasty bottled water. I wish I owned that concession at WDW in the summer!

Water around the country, or even the world, varies from place to place. Usually if you go someplace where the water has similar minerals that are in your water, you will probably like it. I have to say, I like Central Florida water and hate the water we have around here (and bottle waters). But that's an opinion. It's like anything else, if it from somewhere different it will have a different taste (for example, go to the Arbor Bar in Buffalo, NY and get the original Buffalo Wings; get them anywhere else, and they taste different).

My folks live in Florida, and stinky water seems to be the norm everywhere I've been in the state, not just Orlando

Crazy4mandms -

We drink tap water here in socal... but it is from the Sierra Nevada mountains (that whole water thing described in the Jack Nicholson movie China Town.) Anyway, our water tastes great for tap water.

The water at WDW is vile. Think sea water and you won't be far off. Its very salty, strong sulfur taste and depending upon which drinking fountain you use, it can be cold or fairly warm. When you are real thirsty, its better than nothing. After a week drinking it, you become kind of used to it and don't notice the bad taste so much. The first three or four days are the worst.

Maybe it does come from Bay Lake!

We drove to WDW so it was no problem taking enough bottled water with us. At the resort we would fill our insulated bottles with ice and bottled water.

Yes you can get free ice water from the concession stands, while at AK i ran out of water and asked them to refill my bottle, they said they could not refill my bottle only give me a glass of ice water which was a very small paper cup full.

better to take your own water with you then wait in long lines for a small cup of free ice water.
