How does waitlist work exactly!

Just wondering how it works. Lets say I waitlist at VWL for 3 days. And lets say 4 other people waitlist for the same days plus 2 before or after the days i am waitlisting for. Those 4 people are all ahead of me. Would I get the room or does the computer wait to see what becomes available for those ahead of me first.

No days are held waiting for others to become available.

For example -

1. A wants Su - Thur nights(5)
2. B wants Su - Fri nights(6)
3. C wants Sa - Wed nights(5)
4. D wants Sa - Sa nights (7)
5. You want M - W night (3)

None of the days are available. A cancellation occurs and now M, T, W, Th & F nights are available.

The first waitlist match is you. You get the M, T & W night.

The Th & F nights go back into the inventory. They go to anyone who may call to request them or to a waitlist request if/when the other nights needed to make a match become available. Again, no nights are held waiting for something else to open up to make a match.

If Saturday to the next Sunday, 8 nights, became available, does the Sa - Sa person get it only if no one is exactly waiting for Sa - Sun?

Does it make no difference whatsoever when the people got on the waitlist?

It does make a difference when you got on the WL because the first WL that can be completely filled with the available nights will get them. Let's say you are on the WL for Sat-Sat and I am above you on the list for Sun-Thu. Let's say Sat-Sun (8 nights) become available. Since my WL is checked before yours, I get Sun-Thu. That leaves Sat night and Fri-Sun. Those aren't enough to fill your WL so unless there is someone below you who is WL'ed for just Sat or for Fri-Sun, those nights return to the booking pool.
