How does this work--Booking question??

Ok, here's the scenario! I'm sorry in advance if this gets confusing, I'm trying to figure it out to see if this is even feasible. I'm also going to use round numbers to make life easier!

I have a Dec. UY. I have all 2008 pts (lets say I have 100) that just got alloted this month. I'm banking them, so they will have to be used by Nov 30, 2010. Of course I will get another set of points Dec 2009 which I would have to use by end of Nov 2010 as well if I didn't bank them.

Here's the confusing part. Can I plan an extended trip end of Nov going into Dec. 2010? Let's say it takes 150 pts for the last 4 days in Nov. I would be using 2008's banked points plus 50 of 2009's points. Then i could technically bank the remaining 50 2009 points right? But can they just bank and book them for use for the dates I need Dec.1 to like Dec 5th if I wanted? And if I needed more than 50 points for the rest of those dates, since I get another set of points Dec 1, I would be able to use that current years points as well? Does this make sense?

Please advise if this is right? Was this too confusing? Thanks for any input if you were able to follow along!!

Correct.

Yes, they could be banked and then used in a single call. But be warned they cannot be un-banked if your plans change.

And if I needed more than 50 points for the rest of those dates, since I get another set of points Dec 1, I would be able to use that current years points as well?

Correct.

In most cases maximum points members can access for a single reservation is 3 years worth--banked, current and borrowed. But if your reservation crosses your Use Year, you could actually use points from 4 different years. That's what you would be doing here.

Thank you so much! I THOUGHT I would be able to use 4 years this way if I needed it (which I don't think I will)....but thank you for clearing this up for me!

I have a Dec UY too, so I will take a stab at answering your question.

So as of Dec. 1, 2009 you would have 200 points to use by the end of the use year Nov. 30, 2010.

Yes, you could, it would be 100 08 points and 50 09 points.

But can they just bank and book them for use for the dates I need Dec.1 to like Dec 5th if I wanted? You don't even have to bank the 09 points because they are good until Nov 30, 2010

And if I needed more than 50 points for the rest of those dates, since I get another set of points Dec 1, I would be able to use that current years points as well? Does this make sense? You would still have 50 points left from your 09 use year and could borrow 2010 points after 12/1/09 for any trips.

The thing I would worry about is losing the borrowed points travelling so close to the end of the use year. They could go into holding or reservation status or even be lost depending on if you had to cancel and when. And, of course, being in a constant borrowing mode.

Just remember that use year only affects when you get your points and banking deadlines, not when you can reserve. I actually have come to enjoy my Dec UY because I am always a year behind on my points allocation. Hope that helps and have a good time.
