how does the waitlist work?

I am hoping pixie dust comes my way. Booked OKW 2/14-2/17 and AKV 2/17-2/19. Not even thinking that this is winter recess for the NYC area. At least I was able to get something. AKV is home but it was booked for the first 3 nights. I was offered OKW or SSR (with this being limited). Hope AKV comes through.

Was shocked the points were low. I guess winter recess doesn't matter but the points for Easter were high. :scared1:

Hi everyone! DH and I are new DVC members (YEY!) and tried getting reservations for AK (Jambo or Kidani) for Feb 2010 and were told that there was a waitlist. My question is...if I reserve at a different resort (ie. SSR) how will I know if we'll be staying at SSR or AK? Will I be notified by MS or should I call them? Also, what are the chances that we will get AK for in Feb for 8 nights? Thanks in advance everyone!

I know that the week of the 15th is winter recess. I was able to get the last 2 days at Kidani and the first 3 at OKW. If you are on the waitlist, they will mail you the confirmation. You can also find out if you were accepted if you sign into the DVC website and your reservation has changed. They will not call you or e-mail you. Others have just called to inquire if they were accepted and found out that way.

well, I can tell you right now I am WL for oct 11 at BCV or BWV..now wait before you say that is food and wine and popular resorts..let me tell you I have called every morning for the past week or 2 trying to piece rooms together(for other nights during that time frame) and I have had offered to me BWV and a little BCV(in fact took 1 day at each)..these were mostly 1 bedrooms
I did find it interesting they were offered to me as that suggests to me that they manually do WL at some point during the day and I happened to call while those rooms were in limbo.
I have had all resports at some point(one day here and one day there) offered to me during that one week period. So, calling can help move the system along

Our final night for Vero Beach came through (day after Easter 4/5/10)! :cool1::banana::cool1: I was sweating it out, but just happened to check it at random today and it was reserved! Woo Hoo! 61 days to go!

IMHO the wait list process is a fake. Too many times are wait lists filled while members just happen to be on the phone with MS.

Some Advisers will tell you that they are filled in real time, others will tell you that they are filled at night. Doesn't seem that even they know for sure what goes on.

I say call often and keep your fingers crossed. :goodvibes

I think the waitlist is fine if you are only adding on 1 night. Most, but not all, of the posters above who had their waitlist come through were only looking for 1 night.

However, if you want, for example, 4 nights, and the first 3 nights become available the wait list will not match up. If the fourth night becomes available, even the next day, chances are at least one of the first 3 nights that were available the previous day, has already gone to someone else on the waitlist, and your waitlist again wil not match up.

My conclusion, the wait list is fine and there is no need to call if you are only looking for 1 night, but for longer stays I think you can improve your chances by calling, and trying to piece together what you want.

I know waitlists sometimes do come through for longer stays, but I think you can still improve your chances by calling, especially if you are willing to live with not getting all of your nights.

I've had a 4 night savannah view 1 bedroom waitlist come through at Kidani for our March trip. I had a standard view booked, and waitlisted in December. I don't know for sure when the reservation changed to a savannah view, but it did without my calling MS. As soon as I noticed it, I called my DF. She wasn't as excited as I was, but I was very very happy, and still am!
